Rumors that Sony was planning to release an Android-powered PlayStation Phone gained serious momentum last night as images of a supposed prototype for the long expected phone popped up online, suggesting that not only is the device real, but it could be releasing sooner rather than later.
Engadget posted the above image, claiming 'the picture above is in fact the PlayStation Phone you've long been waiting for.' While the PSP Go-ish phone certainly looks like what I'd imagine a PSPhone to look like, Sony has yet to confirm its authenticity.
The specs are basically the same as those that leaked a few months back (a long touchpad with multitouch support, shoulder PlayStation shoulder buttons, a microSD card slot, etc.). The phone is said to pack a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655, 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and a 3.7-4.1 inch screen, and it's expected to run on Android 3.0. It will also apparently have a 'custom Sony Marketplace,' which sounds basically like the current PlayStation Store, where users will be able to buy games.
