    Farewell to a GREAT AMERICAN

For those who have read and/or watched the mini series "Band of Brothers", you all know how instrumental Winters was. He was essentially the main character, and from I took from both the movie as well as the book was that he was a great man and his men would go to hell and back for him.

Below is a link to an article, informing of this passing......very sad.

I encourage any of you who have not read or watched Band of Brothers, to please do so. You will not regret it!!!

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. ― Alexis de Tocqueville

I have not read the book but I have seent he mini-series several times. Pre-roll interviews with the actual soldiers were great. From those interviews he himself struck me and strong upstanding human. His soldier COMPLETELY respected and honored him. I should only hope to be looked upon as half as foundly as he was from those I share my life with in this world.

...So live, that when thy summons comes to join
        The innumerable caravan, which moves
To that mysterious realm, where each shall take
His chamber in the silent halls of death,
Thou go not, like the quarry-slave at night,
Scourged to his dungeon, but, sustained and soothed
By an unfaltering trust, approach thy grave
Like one who wraps the drapery of his couch
About him, and lies down to pleasant dreams.
