    my tv issues

    I posted a little about my tv issues in the Killzone 3 thread but I need some help/advise. The other day I was watching a movie on Netflix and the picture went out, came back on then went out again. That was when I made the post that my tv had taken a shit. When I got home I tried my PS3(was on 360 when it 1st happened) and the picture worked, just no sound. Now today everything works just fine.

    Im thinking it might be my power strip that the tv and 360 are plugged into since about a week ago I had red light on my 360 power brick. When I unplugged it and waited a minute it worked. I would think that if both the power brick and tv had power issues but now are fine, but if anyone has any advise it would be appreciated. I just played the KZ3 beta and am excited that my tv is working but I dont want to spend my tv money only for it to die in 2 weeks, then I have new games but nothing to play them on.

      Well if you decide to go the route of getting a new TV you should consider getting a monitor instead of an actual TV. An HD TV will always be twice the price of a computer monitor that is exactly the same size. If you can find one that has the ports on it that you need then I would say go for that instead of a TV.

      As far as the power brick for the Xbox, that might be the problem but don't quote me on that because I don't know that much about the Xbox and I have no experience with them at all. But I would suggest moving it to a location that is well ventilated and you might want to consider taking it off the carpet, especially if it has vents on it.

          That might be a good idea, just from a quick glance at the Bestbuy site the 32 in monitor was a lot more then an hdtv but the 27in was a decent price an I think mine is a 27 in now so it would be the same size, just in hd. Thanks for the advise, I think Ill check that out before work, the monitors have less response time too.

              What type of TV is it?

              If a new surge protector fixes it that's great but it the whole no sound but having a picture sounds pretty weird.

                  Its a Panasonic, 8 or 9 years old. At 1st the picture had went out too, and just like the power brick now appears to be fine. So Im going to use it like normal and if anything else happens then its new tv time. I know I eventually need a hdtv, I was just hoping this one could hold out another year(8 months would be ok). I have to get my car fixed and my wisdom teeth removed in 2 weeks so money is kind of tight.

                      Did you replace the surge protector that the TV and 360 are on? If not I would do that. It could be power strip is shot, and I hope when you say power strip you do mean surge protector. If not, get a surge protector..lol


                      As far as a TV, I'm using a 26" HDTV/Monitor from Samsung. It's pretty nice, but I got that combo because my Computer is also hooked up this monitor. I know Samsung makes a pretty good product. Sony, Panasonic, and LG are all good TVs when it comes to an HDTV.

                      When you do purchase a TV here is the advice I have for you. Go to the store and see which ones you like. After you've narrowed it down a bit look through Cnet.com and their review section. They do a great job with reviews.

                      The next place to head over too is http://www.avsforum.com/ . The AVS forums are for folks that love home theatre. They have just about every TV spec'd out, what settings give you the best color and any sort of known issues within the TV. It's a great place to go if you are looking to tweak your TV to give you the best possible image. Chances are there's someone that has posted about whatever TV you look at and will let you know how it works with a 360, PS3 and your cable provider.


                      If you are looking to save a little money on buying a TV then buy last year's model. After the CES show all the new models come out and the older ones get discounted a bit. Christmas, 4th of July, Super Bowl time are also big TV sale times.


                      Last thing. When you get a TV with features like Game mode, Movie mode and whatever modes there are don't stress about it. Sometimes some of those modes will not work well with a 360 or PS3. So don't be pissed that you bought this TV and your 360 lags. Just switch to a different mode and see if that helps. If not do not be afraid to take it back..lol

                          So it worked for about another week and now its down for sure. There is another tv in the house I can use but not as much as Im usually on. I still need to get my car fixed but I should be getting about $1,500 back on my taxes so Ill be able spare about $400 for a tv but thats not for 3 or 4 weeks. Hopefully I can get on to play some KZ3 with you guys but its not looking like it will be very much.

                              That sucks man. Looks like you should be able to get a 32" for $400 pretty easily
