Thinking about picking this one up: S&W Sigma

Anyone want to offer some input on 9mm vs .40 cal for this 24oz gun?

I've watched some Youtube vids of people shooting the .40 variant and the recoil looks pretty significant. IDK if the shooters are pussies or if the recoil is actually that bad.

My plan for the gun is to keep it with me in the car. Audi was nice enough to put a handy little drawer under my seat that will work perfectly. Why? Because, driving through the city at night can get a little sketchy. I wonder if the transition from warm garage to cold in winter almost every day will affect the weapon negatively?

.40 is a lot more powerful than 9mm, so you will definitely catch the recoil difference, but it shouldnt be overpowering at all.

My dad hates shooting my Glock 27 (.40) because of the recoil, but I don't notice it hardly and everyone agrees my 9mm Keltec PF9 is a LOT less pleasant to shoot...

9mm is a significant caliber, though. Just carry good rounds for it

I have the Sigma .40 and I love it. One thing to keep in mind while you are shooting is that with the clip loaded the gun is beautifully balanced but as you shoot it it becomes front heavy so you have to adjust slightly as you empty the clip.

All in all the gun is great, if you're just planning on leaving it in your vehicle it will be fine, it's a little big to conceal on your person but not impossible, I would suggest an inside the pants holster stuck in the small of your back, just makes it uncomfortable sitting down.

The .40 does kick harder than the 9 but the additional knock down power is worth it. Either caliber would be fine for a C.C.W. I personally carry a 9 with me, most people aren't going to hang around once the shooting starts regardless of what caliber gun you're holding.

AWESOME!!! So tiny. Not that a .22 magnum is oh so deadly, but i dunno... a 40 grain bullet going 1900 FPS isn't exactly something to laugh at, and you seriously can NOT beat the concealability.

Isn't it odd how the differences add up ?.

I dearly loved my old .45, and back in the day even got my expert marksmanship medal with it. They they went to the Glock, but truth be told, I actually prefered the .45, the older it was, the better. At least for me. Damn fine pistol. I could literally shoot the wings off a Fly with it.

And I loved the old "Grease Guns" we used to have. Inaccurate as Hell in the wrong hands, but if you knew how to use it, it could cause serious catastrophic damage at close range. :



When my Mother went for her Conceal and carry, all she had at the time was a .22 peashooter. I bought her a .45 hand cannon, and she absolutely loves it. And did great on the range with it. Small enough to conceal, with serious stopping power.

Small entry, but will blow a hole the size of a grapefruit on exit.

Best bang for the buck in concealed carry calibers in my opinion:
Glock 26: Great for winter, not the best for spring/summer. It's use of double stack magazines means it's a good bit thicker than the other two mentioned, but you do get 10+1 rounds, and add two more if you get a pearce grip for each mag. Though it's small for a glock, it's still thick and heavy. $500.

heheh Deslock sounds like me. When they switched over to the M9 I didn't want to give up my 1911. Luckily I didn't have to. I had a buddy in the armory who hooked me up. I always preferred the stopping power of the 45 over the penetrating power of the 9mm. Too many times have I seen the 9 go through someone and they keep coming, where as the 45 would put them on their ass.

Shot Expert with the 1911 every single time I had to go qual with it, so I might be a bit prejudice too ;)

Yup. Summer means lighter clothes, no jacket... tougher to conceal so ya go with a smaller weapon.
