    Plasma or LCD

I been wonder how many of you guys game with a Plasma or LCD. I have a 50in
Plasma Panasonic which I love but it seems like the blacks are so good I have a hard time seeing people move in a distance like socom or bf3 but in WH the graphic are brighter and I see alot better.

I have brighten everything up trying to get it better but its still not the way I think it should be.And I think a LCD is alot brighter, but I never have gamed on a LCD

So do any of you guys game with a plasma ?

The newest version is LED (pretty much an improved version of the LCD). I recently got a 60 inch LED, and it's pretty clear and crisp (it also adjusts brightness depending on the lighting in the room). From word of mouth, LCD and LED are the way to go but I had no problems with a Plasma. I play my games on my 50 inch LCD and I can't complain on brightness or anything.

i use a asus 25 inch LED monitor to game on but if I could buy a tv right now i would get a LED or LCD 120hz 50 inch tv with smart apps and wifi. I would stay away from plasma just because they still get burn in and will heat up your living room if not well vented

Has anyone seen an OLED TV? Holy shit they are amazing. I work at Frys and we had a 30" come in as a display model even though we don't carry them at the moment. But wow it's soooo slim and the picture is awesome. The spec sheet lists it as 4mm thick. I would suggest if you want the best of the best to look into these TVs as they hit the market. We have no pricing info yet but these obviously wont be as cheap as a LED, Plasma, or LCD.

My brother just recently bought a 55" LCD (I think) from Best Buy. The only reason I bring this up is he had some geek squad guy come out to his house with some computer he hooked up to his new TV and made it so the colors really come out.

Apparently, according to the geek the newer tv's run at like 60% and he turned it up to like 95%. My brother says it looks even that much better now, he don't have a reason to lie to me.

Have any of you guys heard of this?

OLEDs are amazing, I agree. I did hear at one point that there either was a technical issue with making them large. . . or that they would be prohibitively expensive at large sizes. What's a 30" run at Fry's?

Not sure yet Jackal since the model we got is a promo stand. No pricing at the moment but it's probably to garner some interest in it while people snatch up the in stock TVs on Black Friday. Kinda disappointed though as our store isn't really doing much for Black Friday this year. The Sony X series LED LCD TVs are half off so $1700 for a 55". It has a programmable CPU unit within the back cell that allows "fine tuning" of the resolution rate. Something like that could be what Reaper is describing.

I stayed away from LCD due to burnt pixels, but it's a relatively small percentage issue, but once you have em, you have em.

I have had my 50" Plasma (Samsung) about 6 years with heavy use, fell asleep to DVD several times and can assure you burn in is not an issue... it was in the early generations of the tech, but this hasnt been an issue despite my marathon game sessions and leaving a dvd on all night several times. Great blacks, but it does heat up and translate to your electricity bill.

LED is what I was waiting on, but my previous TV died and I was forced to early adopt. This would clearly be my runaway choice for value.

OLED looks incredible but you will pay for the early adoption.

I figure 4K is still quite a ways off, so no big deal really if you are worried about upwards compatibility, the standard isn't really well defined as of yet even on camera gear.

You can still get a burn in with a plasma. You just have to make sure the pixel orbitor is on all the time.

                        KG,

I think your question is about the black levels versus what produces the best picture. I have 2 LCD and one Plasma. Both LCD's are Sony Bravia's and the Plasma is a Panasonic. On my really nice Sony it producers AMAZING pictures, but I can see shit in night maps or in the shadows when gaming. I have tried EVERYTHING to adjust for it and it still is an issue. I will say, messing with the setting helps a little, so you may want to try that. However, my Plasma is cheaper and while it has a good picture the black levels are not as deep and therefore the picture quality is not as good. But I can see better on night maps, distance, and shadows.

So I don't think it is so much a Plasma versus LCD, but rather just how deep the black levels can get. Typically speaking I think for gaming, the cheaper the TV the less likely you will have an issue with real deep black levels. Both my Sony's have issues. I have google the issue, and the internet research seems to point to Sony having issues with how dark certain games can appear. That is ironic given the Playstation is in the same family.

My problem is my really nice TV is down in my man cave with my surround sound system. The Plasma is in the bedroom and while I can use my Turle Beaches for a nice sound system, the wife tends to get annoyed if I play video games at night in the bedroom. Especially when I start talking with everyone over the headset. I've thought about buying a cheaper TV just for gaming to set up in another room and use my Turtle Beaches, but I really don't have a good spare room for that. So I usually just deal with it and play at a little dissadvantage on night maps, etc.

@nd I agree with what ur saying, my plasma at the time I got it it was one of the best as far as reviews
Watching movies or what every I'm very pleased, but playing some games I have a hard time seeing special in a distance and when they are wearing dark colors.
