Personally I prefer the AEK-971 but im starting to get quite fond of the M416.

Aug all the way. Its the mix of an Ak and M16 with the advantages of bullpup handling during sprays. Not to mention the range is on par with the scar L. The perfect balance between rate of fire, dmg output and handling makes the Aug a 10 out of 10.

It is completely customizable, from smoke cover launchers to the m26 dart. A foregrip on this gun is pointless because its sideways recoil is practically nonexistent.

So slap on a bipod and you can pin down snipers in some maps.

I have a respect for the Aug because of a game i used to play called warrock. It was considered a sniper rifle class weapon. Full auto, the only gun that can even match its beastiness would be the GA3, which does the most dmg per bullet.

I say this because it is an all around weapon. Alot of assault rifles specialize in a specific area. The scarL and GA3 are slower rate, high velocity rounds, good for bigger maps.

Some guns like the Famas and f2000 shoot fast as shit and are good for close quarters. Most guns, however are for the mid game in the assault class. Most with rates of fire in the 700s. For those guns the AEK or L86 are great options because they have less recoil. And in BF3 Camos do make a difference. So its good to get used to the weapons that have camos available for them.

I dont always use assault rifles but when I do its the AUG. I think its very precise and I like its rate of fire and I agree with JDZE09 its sideways recoil is almost nonexistent

Add to the list the M16A4. Which I think is the best all around assault to go with. If you're looking for the least recoil, with same bullet damage, this beats the AUG by a mile. Slap on a silencer and foregrip and you get the tightest grouping of any of the assault rifles.

The only downside is no auto, but I'm used to firing burst as in most games that causes the most accurate and damaging shots. Might just be hard coded in me from the SWBF days.

The M16A4 is truly an under used gun. It was the first gun I got a service star in. I think with the right attachments and its three round burst it is a truly power full gun in the right hands. One of my fav things to do with the gun is to set it up as a sniper rife with the scope, bi-pod, and heavy barrel.

F2000 for me. While I used to use the M16A4 a lot, I like having the option to go full auto which is why I switched. The F2000 has no noticeable recoil which is great for getting kills at longer distances. Even with a suppressor/heavy barrel, you can get some good hip fire kills. Plus the gun itself looks badass.

@Cotto: On the PS3 version, almost every other Assault kit uses the M16A4.

I see a lot of the F2000 and AUGs on the xbox. I think it is do to the high rate of fire for the spray and pray play style.

Yes the m16 is a beast. Yes it is considered by most people to be the best assault rifle. I like to be unique. since the aug has a rate of fire at 700s I dont think its best fit for the desperate spray n pray. If people are doing that its because its a bullpup gun so the handling is really good and they get confident in that. however when i use it just about every shot is down the sight, allowing me to controll the bursting. flash surpresser turns the thing into a lazer.

AUG: 700rpm .2 vertical recoil even going full auto the Aug actually has less

M16: 800rpm .26 vertical recoil (both variants) So the m16 does in fact have higher recoil than the Aug vertically but yes the burst m16 will give u that time in between shots to give the sensation of less recoil. whats interesting is that the The Aug has a higher horizontal recoil than the M16 but....

Since it is a bullpup gun you dont really get effected by the side recoil. And it takes up less of the screen which causes you to react tighter rather than a sway. Its a balanced weapon brewskee.
The m16s offer great tightness, which is why i would wonder why someone would slap a foregrip on an m16, youre only messing up the ADS accuracy. It actually would be a good close quarters weapon if in full auto. in fact, since it has a 800 rate of fire, the m16 in full auto is actually a spray n prayers delight. But like i said not my style. Simply anyone using the Aug for spray n pray is probably just a noob with premium.

On a side note I would probably use the m16 more if it didnt have the iron sight mixed with the add on sight attatchment. I think it looks weird. that goes for the m4 as well in the engineer class. just not my style.

The Augs bullets have a velocity of 670m's The fastest bullet in it's class, this coincides to its range of 1005m

The m16s stats 650m/s with range of 975m, still very good, but it comes up short with the Aug in that area. So technically, quick R1 tapping with the Aug is like an advanced M16 mode. Uber beast...

lol yea i remember the jetpack trooper, causing havok one burst at a time.
It also reminds me of the KZ3 specialty assault rifle with the burst mode, silencer and a holographic sight. you could replicate it with the M16 If it just werent for that damn iron sight in the front.

G3A3, all day every day... I have service starred all weapons, and the rest suck next to this beast... for my play style...

I hated the Assault class until I unlocked it and started for the service star (the last one I got).

My setup: G3A3, Heavy Barrel, Foregrip, ACOG 4X.

If I am in a field or likely to encounter enemies at ranges greater than 20 yards, it's in Semi. It does less damage than a M417 Recon, but is dead on on followup shots since it has far less recoil. It's a headshot machine, and I rarely need to go into Iron Sights, unless the enemy is greater than 20 yards or so. It's fire rate in semi auto is NASTY. I am a pistol duelist anyway, so 21 rounds in a weapon this powerful with this kind of range is devastating.

Oh, I need to mix it up in CQ? Flip to Auto and fire short bursts (I'm talking one to two rounds, tapping like with a pistol, your followups won't case recoil climb). Devastating. I RARELY lose face to face battles unless I'm totally surprised. Trigger discipline. Once you learn that, this is the be all end all.

Second Choice: KH2002. 3 round burst really helps this out... stays on target well and I seemed to get really lucky followups at pretty good range often with it (greater than 70 yards).

Third choice: Doesn't matter. The rest are practically clones of each other since they are all using 5.56 or similar rounds. I wish there was an AK47 in the game, or something.


Assault weapons in this game are all about burst discipline at range outside 50m, and that's iffy if you don't exercise discipline. Closer than that and the carbines are better, farther away and the 308 MG's are MUCH better.

If you are a sprayer, then AR's are fine at under 40m and pretty much useless everywhere else.

I prefer assault to be a "do it all" class, which is why the G3A3 to me is far and away tops... auto for under 20m, semi for otherwise out to 40, acog for greater than 40, out to about 200, though I have gotten some headshots farther out. It's the Diet-417.

for some reason I love the AN-94..... Love the way it sounds...

Also enjoy using the ak, and the AUG. The G3 is a beast on pc.

For some reason I like the slower firing weapons.

Right now my setup is AN-94, PKS-HOLD, Heavy barrel, and the underslug thingy with the M26 Mass for closs range.

JDEZ09, Symthic doesn't give as good of a comparison as the Better Battle Log addon does. You can actually compare the two attachments and see the spread images. The M16A4 has a bit more vertical spread, but much tighter horizontal. I'd rather have to aim center mass and get an upward spray then having bullets breaking to the side. Especially at mid range with someone on the run.
I don't worry too much about long range with Assault, although never been a problem either. But I'm always running into the fray if I'm the assault class. And a Halo isn't the best scope for it either. If they are really up close, well that is what the REX is for. lol

But at the end of the day, it's whatever someone is more comfortable with, the design of gun they like, and what gets the kills for them. One thing I noticed about this game over most others, is people really get attached to their weapons. Just the shear amount of them and the attachments you can use to tweak it exactly to your liking.
