    Origin of Deslock's name

    I was hoping to find a clip where all the Gamilon's are saluting Deslock and chanting his name.

    This show was like crack for me when I was in 2nd grade.

    Erm, thanks. I was hoping that someone would make me feel really OLD today. I'm not going to say how old I was when I was watching it..heh.
    I just thank God I don't look anything like how old I am, lol, people NEVER guess my real age.

    Really though, thanks for that Zabs, I really appreciate it. I never though of searching youtube for clips. Found some nice 'lil gems of the Blue skinned Emperor that is my namesake. God how I loved that show. I love to have the series, but *whew* the price is staggeringly high.

    Leader Desslok in action:

    And Brave Gamilon Colonel Ganz ultimate sacrifice for his Emperor, would've made even Palpatine proud, and shows why I loved the Gamilons.:

    Leader Desslok is perhaps the most complex character in the whole Yamato story. In 2199, Desslok first appears in his 103rd year as the diabolical and clever leader, whose only goal is to expand Gamilon territory. At his command is the most powerful and expansive space fleet this side of the Milky Way. The Gamilons inevitably encountered Earth, and decided to claim it for their Leader. When the Star Force rose up in defiance of this, Desslok considered first considered it a trifle, then an amusement. Slowly at first, and then in a frenzy, Desslok threw his forces in the path of the Star Force as it pressed to Iscandar (and therefore to Gamilon as well).

    In 2201, after having his Gamilon ruined by his own schemes to trap the Star Force, Desslok vowed revenge on his hated enemy. With his forces greatly weakened, Desslok allied himself with the Comet Empire in its conquest of Earth. In doing so, he also created a few rivalries in the Comet Empire itself, particularly with Princess Invidia, spawning jealous schemes which eventually foiled many of his efforts to destroy the Star Force.

    When victory against the Star Force was finally at hand, in a pistol duel with Derek Wildstar, Desslok witnessed Nova risk her life to save and defend Wildstar. Touched by their exchange of love and concern for Earth in the face of immediate personal danger, Desslok realised that the Earther's reasons for fighting were the same as his own motivations to save life on Gamilon. He vowed then never to fight Earth or the Star Force again, and, placing Wildstar's dropped Astro Pistol into Nova's hands, he bid farewell and set out to find a new home for his people.
    The full site, it rules:

    So yes, my name is in honor of the ultimate warrior Emperor, who fought to the bitter end for what he believed in, and in the end, saw the error of his ways, but always fought with honor. Which is why his people fought to the death for him.

    And the most interesting thing...The story of the Starblazers saga is still INFINATELY better than EP1 and EP2 of Star Wars. God I miss those simpler days.

      The story wasn't simpler though---they were much more complex than the spectacular looking piffle that Lucas put out recently. Characters were conflicted by personal vengeance needs, romantic interests, loyalty to Captain Avatar, concerns about the destruction of Earth. This wasn't simply a good v evil story. it was much more representative of the complexities that go into war time decisions.

      I am not an anime fan. Never really have been. However, this show was something else back then.

      Deslock! Deslock, Deslock, Deslock!

      The third season was never broadcast in the states to what I recall.

        Tried to find something representative of my name's origin. This is the best I could do.

          Well, I don't think there's much mystery to "Mace" although it's also my middle name and a really cool medieval weapon.

          My brother and I grew up on Starblazers and watched everyday after school so I'm right in there with you ol' farts! :D

          I agree that the collector's DVD set is $$$ so I highly recommend using Netflix or a similar service if you want to watch the series again. They have all 3 seasons on Netflix by the way.

          And if you think the DVD set is $$$, I'll send you the link to a die-cast replica of the Argo/Yamato. I think it goes for $150 or something ridiculous although it would be pretty cool to have on a desk or in a display case. I'll look for the link a little later or you could do a search for it. Just search on "shamelessly priced merchandise". :D

          Later guys,

          Mace

          P.S. Zabka, I hope I wasn't out of line with my post in the Barracks, I just felt frustrated and wanted to see some kind of improvement on how events are organized/posted.

            not out of line at all. I just wanted to clarify that there is sometimes a method to the madness, but the posts on events could be a bit better organized at times.

              New footage that I'd never seen before, where Desslok saves the Yamato from it's enemies.:

              Wow, that was cool, although I always like the haunting voice of the english version of Desslok though.

              What I said that I yearned for those "simpler times" Zabka, was in reference to my own life. Because at that time I didn't concern myself about world politics, and just how crappy life can be. It was just about cute girls then, and partying.

              BTW Zabka, does this mean that we can all call you "Little Frog?":

                Hey thats pretty neat Deslock.I kinda though I was the only person who had actually knew about old anime like that.

                Not to hi-jack the thread,but the Origin of my username comes from an anime called X/1999 where the characters name is 'Kamui Shirou'.I thought the character was pretty neat and he became one of my favorites.Cold,Quiet,but powerful.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnVnTndS0p4

                Shirou Kamui, as the protagonist of CLAMP's seminal work X/1999, is perhaps one of the most widely recognised characters in anime and manga (which is no small feat given the minuscule attention CLAMP's animated ventures have received from the likes of Cartoon Network's Toonami and adult swim blocks). He is voiced by Kenichi Suzumura.
                Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

                Shirō Kamui
                司狼 神威
                しろう かむい

                * sex: male
                * age: 15
                * date of birth: unknown
                * powers: powerful psychic, demonstrating both telekinetic and telepathic ability, the proverbial "power (authority) of God"
                * kekkai (barrier field): perfect sphere
                * relatives: Shirou Tooru / Magami Tooru (mother; deceased), Magami Tokiko
                * romantic interests: Monou Fuuma, Monou Kotori, Segawa Keiichi, Sumeragi Subaru

                When the audience is first introduced to Kamui at the very beginning of X/1999, he appears to be nothing more than a brooding and somewhat cocky fifteen year old from Okinawa who is gifted (or perhaps, cursed) with extraordinary telekinetic powers. He has returned to his place of birth,Tokyo, for the first time in six years, prompted to do so by the mysterious dying words of his mother, Shirou Tooru. Kamui's mother cryptically whispered to Kamui as she burned alive in their home that his destiny awaited him in Tokyo.

                The name "Kamui" has two meanings: 1) One who represents the majesty of God; and 2) One who destroys the majesty of God.
