Well, I just dropped about $650 on new computer parts, so I'll be seeing you broke fools on the PC version, hopefully. There's no ps3 in my near future. I think I'll be buying pc games and used ps2 games for some time.

The $600 one may give you more options but the lesser one gives you enough to don't be disappointed. The more expensive one is more powerful which allows those extra features but I really doubt that either version will be a disappointment.

I'm totally saving for th $599 one....gunna be worth it it looks like. I REALLY hope this clan goes for the PS3 instead of Xbox360 because you gotta pay for the online time :? don't like that a lot.

If you have an HDTV the PS3 becomes far more appealing for both its games and its bluray player. Getting the most out of bluray requires and HDTV. Appliance players for bluray are still $1200, so $600 is a great deal for a game system that supports it.

The PS3 is a steal for the hardware it contains. Given the $900 initial production cost, Sony is losing $300 on every unit at launch just to get them in our hands. The unit sports the new Cell Processor which has nine CPU cores: one master core, and eight worker cores. This is like having a computer with 8 CPUs running at 3.2GHz each, a great amount of computing power. Also the PS3 unit supports two HDTV connections. So in theory you could do head-to-head games with two HDTVs.

Knowing that the PS3 is a bargain for its hardware, its value really hinges on having an HDTV.

I don't have an HDTV yet...but these are coming down in price. I am seeing 37" LCD HDTVs available from delloutlet.com for $1200. 42" plasmas can be obtained for about $2500 now. I am guessing that by the same time next year a 37" LCD will be $800. I think that will by my breaking point where I will buy an HDTV...when I can get one that is 37" or bigger for under $1000.

But regarding getting the PS3...I think that I'll get one at the same time as when I get an HDTV, or sooner if SWBF3 comes out sooner.

I know a scratch and dent place here that is selling 60 inch HD for $600, 50 inch for $300. Best Buy is based out of here so anything with even the slightest scratch goes to this guy because BB refuses to sell any slighty damaged goods and their main warehouse is here. I am going there to look at some this weekend! Problem is my rear latch on my truck is stuck so getting one home will be a @#$%&!!!!

You guys don’t have to convince me of the PS3. I like most of you have been a Sony supporter since PSI came out. I will be purchasing one not long after it hits the shelves. I want to give it a little bit of time on the market so the kinks can be worked out before I buy it. As soon as BFIII is out, I will most likely buy it and the PS3 at the same time.

                ...

That's exactly what I was thinking, let the first production run go out so they can work out the kinks, by the time the next run comes out BF3 should be coming out and the price of the PS3 will probably have dropped a hundo and there will be more games. I know sony was very late getting the specs out to the game developers so there are not going to be a lot of quality games for the PS3 for awhile. Certainly not for this X-mas this year!

I have been a long time Sony supporter, but I think I have to back the 360 on this. For one, I did my little camp out at the store for the PS2 on launch, and unless your willing to do this, dont expect to find a PS3 anytime before march. Most places wont take preorders if theres that much of a shortage. Even if they do, some places still require you to be there first thing to pick it up, or you lose out.
The PS3 is only shipping 400k units to the US. Thats really not that many units at all. Expect to find them on Ebay for $2000

The 360 is going to be dropping $100 in price to try and bash the PS3 launch. Xbox 360 is expected to have over 10 million units sold before the PS3 even launches. Which is a huge player base, which also means a lot of 3rd party support (game developers).

So $299 for a 360 Premiem system, Vs $599 + camp out + bugs to be worked out - Many online players.
For the $300 you save on the 360 you can buy 5-7 years of online. I dont understand why someone would pay MORE just to not pay for online. And the average lifespan on a console system is only 4 yrs.

Dont get me wrong, Once the PS3 comes down in price I'll pick one up. But that wont be for another year then.

I just Paid $350 to upgrade my PC, so between that and the 360 I own, I can keep myself occupied till the PS3 comes down in price.

Btw, If you love the PS controlle rso much, as I do.. http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?cat...ducts_id=1860&. Granted this is for the old Xbox, but im sure some adapters will surface. I'm checking around now for one.

Wow, sounds like most everyone is on the ps3 train, but at different times. It may take a year or so for the DSA to regroup on the next generation of consoles. And I thought BF3 was only slated for 360 right now. Is there any truth to that rumor.

I apologize if that's already addressed in this thread. I didn't feel like looking through the first page of the thread.

The first run always has some sort of quality control issues. But don't expect price to drop for at least a year if not more. By spring of next year, we will see a lot more ps3's out there.

I also expect to see the next gen of 360s shortly---with HD DVD built in--although that hasn't been announced yet.

I am going to sit and wait. From what I can tell, the ps3 looks to be the superior gaming console and more suitable to be hooked up to my HDTV than the 360 since it will serve multiple functions. This makes the ps3 more appealing to me as a central part of my entertainment system.

The question of console will also be somewhat dependent on games for me. I like Halo fine, but the lack of 3ps I find annoying. I prefer the socom franchise. For the games that are console specific---whther or not they open their exclusivity in the next gen will be key to me. for example, halo was enough to want me to get the xbox--but it is one of only 2 games that I own and I don't play it online. sc2 was a cool enough game to make me want to buy a new ps2 when my old one broke instead of just switching to xbox (that and the fact that DSA is a ps2 clan).

So i will have to see what games will be exclusive for the consoles. Of course xbox has the early lead in games and players, but if the ps3 ends up being what it is supposed to be, it will be more functional than an xbox. it will be like comparing apples and oranges--a gaming console vs a central part of your home entertainment. Iexpect SWBF3 will not be an exclusive--but then again, the only other decent starwars games have been xbox. if swbf3 is 360 exclusive, I may go just for that---unless socom4 is ps3 exclusive. I am loathe to switch as I have played swbf1 on the xbox--which looks MUCH better than on the ps2, but I found the controls to be less responsive.

Either way---we need to keep DSA going as the ps2 begins to fade. Either by keeping the gaming going on some ps2 games (which will remain intact for at least the next 12 months as they roll out the ps3) including swbf2 and socom3.
You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!
