Steven Wright, Dennis Leary, Mitch Hedberg (RIP), and Bill Hicks.

Good choice with Mitch Hedberg there Tony and he is one of my favorites as well. I just loved his odd sense of humor.
My top choice would be Louis Black.
And Eddie Izzard (who I will be seeing live in LA on Friday in a rare U.S. apperance) would be my second choice. with Mitch Hedberg being third.Comment

I just don't find Dane Cook or Carlos Mencia very funny. Most of Cook's punchlines I can predict 15 seconds into his bit and his delivery is too "big" for my tastes. Mencia just panders to such a low denominator without being clever.
I still think that Chris Rock has come up with some of the funniest stuff ever. Cedric the Entertainer is also great. I saw Steven Wright live once and it started to hurt from laughing so hard. I think Jeff Foxworthy has come up with some incredibly clever routines. George Carlin, Steve Martin, and Bill Cosby all created acts that were seminal in their day--but perhaps a bit dated today.
And while I don't think I could see them having much of a career doing this same bit--Flight of the Conchords HBO one night stand was absolutely brilliant. Wanda Sykes might be the only female comedian who has made me laugh a lot. I find Sarah Silverman annoying, and Margaret Cho has one funny bit, but now she is just a caricature of who she was.
For people who like standup, Jerry Seinfeld's documentary, "Comedian" is a must see. With all his money, he still gets so freaked out doing live shows and he was so humbled in his meeting with Bill Cosby, clearly a hero to him. You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

David Cross
Bob Saget (he's one sick focker. only reason he did all that family stuff was so that his daughters thought well of him while they were growing up. He wanted them to be able to see everything he did/made.)
Norm McDonald (I like his "don't give a crap" attitude. I think it's funny that he seems like he's reading his lines for the first time when he's delivering them. A LOT of people don't like him and I don't blame them. I've also heard he's an a-hole on coke.)

News Radio was one of the finest sitcoms ever made that nobody watched. Kind of like Arrested Development was. You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

Zabka, I thought my roommate and I were the only Newsradio fans. He's been getting the seasons from netflix. That was such a great show. Awesome cast.
Arrested development kept getting moved from night to night. There was no way for it to gain a solid fan base. That show is BRILLIANT though. I was surprised to hear that fox cancelled, and no one picked it up. Didn't they win emmies or goldenglobes?

I really liked news radio until Hartman died. Also just finished arrested development. A few stupid parts. Can't say it's my favorite show. Some jokes just got a little too worn out.
I liked David Cross's character for most of it. Some of his jokes were like beating a dead horse though. My fav was him being the world's first analrapist."F--k Ron Paul!" -Gino in the heat of a losing battle; COD4; Crash.Comment

Tobias was one of the best characters. I loved how he had a naked phobia and would shower with short shorts. Joeb was awesome too. there is some opening scene on that show, where george michael and buster are both re-enacting the fight between luke and vader on bespin, freaking hilarious.
Dioxin, the reason Norm McDonald seems like he doesn't give a shit, is because he's always on the sauce. Every talk show I've seen him on he has been liquored up. I sill love the guy though.
