    First job

I just landed an interveiw with the retail store Target. I know it's a lame job but it's better than mcdonalds lol. anyways this is my first ever REAL job and i'm nervous as hell to go to the interveiw.

PLEASE give me some pointers, tactics, and any other advice so that i don't embarrass myself or lose my job the first week in lol.

Dress for the job you want not for the one you're applying for (wear a fucking suit and look nice)

Make sure you have everything in order when you go. ID, resume, and other thngs

You're young I don't know if you drive, catch a buss or what not, but make sure they realize that you being young doesn't mean you will be unreliable and not show up.

You know if your report card was good you may want to bring a copy of that to show them.

Tips for keeping the job, go to it, don't run your mouth, don't talk back, smile, and basicly realize at the end of the day it's a job. Whatever advice they give you or if they yelled at you it's not personal so try not to take it as such. You know work is kinda like being in the DSA..lol

Good luck man and once you get it let us know your work schedule!

      ...

...retail jobs like that are pretty straight forward...talk about how you were raised to never be late...think of examples of how you have handled difficult situations...how you enjoy being part of a team (leave video games out of it)...how you are looking to gain experience for college...how you love the stores, products...etc...how you shop there all the time. Here Target is considered crack...never send your girlfriend there with more than a hundo or a credit card....walking out of that store without spending a ton is a stone cold %&$#@!!!!! Talk about how you want to start building your resume and how you think a company like Target would look good!

Target is based here in the Twin Cities so I have had tons of friends who have worked for them, one is even a top lawyer for them.....they are pretty cool company, but take it from someone who did a lot of retail management back in the day, for what they pay, you really just want someone who is going to get a long with everyone else, take care of their business and be reliable, because it's hard to get good help at that pay scale. Your looking at a half hour interview tops probably! Make sure to ask a lot of questions, put the spot light back on them a bit, jsut make sure they are good questions, like about aadvancement opportunities, not the numebr of sick and vacation days.

Good Luck man, don't worry, you should have no problem.

Drizzle and Norm have really nailed it.

Focus on and have examples of:

        1. your commitment to your responsibilities
        2. your punctuality
        3. your ability to handle different responsbilities
        4. your goals and how working for Target helpe achieve them
        5. your work ethic
        6. your abiliti to work within a team and under authority

        Have questions about:
        1. Opportunities at the store/company

My first job was as a bus boy at a bad seafood restaurant along the beach--but in the summer time, the tip out could be over $100 for a night's work.
You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

when ever you can, talk about DSA. Tell them just how much you've learned. When ever they change the subject, just bring it back to DSA. You're a shoe in! Good luck dude. :)

Trust me, you don't want to do that. 8O

My best advice is if you feel comfortable in the interview, then you are bombing it. In other words, if you feel too comfortable, then you are probably speaking too informally. And your posture and manuerisms are also being to lax.

Be sure to sit or stand up straight. Try not to use too many jestures (makes you seem nervous). And keep everything positive. Never mention how you beat up your brother, for example. Speak to the interviewer as if they are your boss already.

                    And don't be late!

Way to go Grejo! So, this is your first job? Good luck and keep your head up. Never be late. Remember, on time is late and to always be 10 to 15 minutes early. Managers are always impressed by folks they can count on.
