First Generation,Second Generation,Third Generation or etc?

I was reading Wiki the other night and I got alittle curious about the old systems before Nintendo and Sega came about.Wow quite alot of systems and I found that each set of consoles come from there own generation like the NES and the Genesis coming from the third generation. So that would mean a majority of us have started there gaming from the third generation 1985 or 1990. I did get to play Atari Briefly before my bro sold it.(Dam that could've sold alot on ebay oh well).

Here's the thing--the first games I remember were pong and pinball. But they were not multi-game platforms. pinball had flipper buttons on either side of the console for you to use to hit the ball up.

Atari came out and changed the world. Sometime around the time that Atari started making computers and started planning their 2nd gen system (the Atari 5200), they started calling it the Atari 2600--prior to that it was just an atari. Sears had some sort of OEM rights from atari at some point and was the only other manufacturer that I can recall.

I had one friend who had Intellivision--George Plimpton actually did commercials for them since I guess he represented intelligence. But that disc thing instead of a joystick was a serious issue.

What was awesome is that when I went to college, some friends of mine dug up their old 2600. We would play some seriously long baseball games. (three fielders that ran together in a row--anybody remember that?).

When the 5200 came out, the graphics were arcade quality, but the controller was a pain. Colecovision came out and had a very real looking donkey kong. That system was awesome. But around that time is when the commodore 64 became widespread and took over gaming for most of my friends. Then there was a long period of not playing games at all untill the nintendo came out.
You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

Holy crap the Coleco Telstar Alpha from your website Kamui. I remember playing pong on that thing. NICE. I didn't remember what it was called, but I will never forget what it looked like. Then the atari of course. My baby sitter had one and we played alot. Meglamania bitches If you don't know, download an emulator and play, its great. Nintendo ruined me. Played so much my I remember getting the first Zelda game down in just a few hours (or less time than I spend playing BF2 on an average day)

Oh and they have out a flashback of the old atari. Might be picking this one up. http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=3942996
Has the same look and controllers but no cartridge since you could fit probably 10 games on an old 3.5" floppy. Hell they don't even put those in cpu's anymore, I feel really old now :( . Ok you could put ALL the atari games on a cd and have probably 650mb left lol. You can still find some atari stuff sometimes in flea markets and pawn shops. My brother actually pick one up recently.

Pong, pinball, and Atari. Now that is some old school shit but I have played them all. My favorites when I was a kid was Vanguard, Centipead, Galaga, Asteroids, Froger, and Donkey Kong. Man, am I telling my age now. My brother collects the old games. He and I used to play them together as much as possible.

I started playing on our Intellivision and our XEROX computer. My neighbor had an atari, but I have no idea what one. I just remember playing a lot of smurfs. lol. So I guess I started at 2nd generation. I just know that I was old enough to work all summer long to save up $100 to buy a nintendo when it came out and beat super mario in two days. Good times... except for all that yard work in 110F DFW weather...

great find Kamui. I had never heard of those first gen consoles, but I remeber having an Atari 5200 with Pit Fall2 and Dig Dug. Its amazing how far video games have come from there start in the 70s. I was a little kid when I was playing on the Atari 5200 so I really don't remeber it to well. The original NES is the system that I remember the most. I don't think I will ever forget having to blow into the games and the system trying to get the damn thing to work lol.

                My perception is this:

first wave: arcade games, pac-man/ pong on the first PC ever

second wave: first ("five inch thick") gameboy, first nintendo

                third wave: super nintendo, sega

fourth wave: nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Sega Dreamcast (popular for about a week)

fifth wave: Playstation 2, Gamecube, XBox

sixth wave: Playstation 3, Wii, Xbox 360

Man, I still have that second verson of a gameboy, not the five-inch thick one. I also HAD a regular nintendo which I sold for $10. Currently I have a Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Playstation 2.

So I guess you could say that I started from the thrid wave, I don't know what generation that is from.

lol, that's what we'll be saying ten years from now, "oh my god, star wars battlefront 2 sucked back then!" Only some people would say that though, true battlefront fans would say this game was a classic, which it is.

Oh man never trade in classics like that because if your me you'll regret it in the future.

Yea ha ha you know thats the same thing we had to do back then when me and my brother had the old NES box.I a majority of the systems had defects,We used to throw the NES games in the frezzer and they would work well 8O.I know it sounds silly, but it worked perfectly.

                  Ninja Gaiden,Super Mario Bros.Metroid,Zelda,Contra games,Double Dragon,Batletoads,Dragon Quest,Final Fantasy,etc All classic favorites from the nes.

We used to have the old boxed NES,but we now have the new release of the NES which is smaller and it works great. We've had that since '94.

Sega Dreamcast (popular for about a week)
Oh dude alot of people underrate the Dreamcast because of Segas drop out of the console industry. As of Today Dreamcast still lives....in japan with new games being made. They do have quite alot of good games, but poorly advertised.

Also theres a NES CD for dreamcast which allows you to play old NES games on it.Another one is the Genesis CD for Dreamcast which in turn lets you play old Sega games, but the sound isn't to good.Another good thing about the system is that it played bootlegs :D.

I've grown up a nintendo person ,but with a side of Sony gaming.

I remember the super nintendo playing mario bros. like no other. Also playing this weird game on the sega saturn that was addicting as hell. it was one of those arcade games except it was the kid version of them and they had the hugest heads lmao.

My three most favorite games were on the nintendo 64. Mario 64, Donkey Kong 64 and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time. No other game could compare to those three and nintendo made the best possible gaming experience with the three most popular characters. Those games weren't easy to beat and it definitly took more than a couple of days to beat it which made people want to play it even more.

Hell i'll still play those games over any other

                        re

Just wanted to say, My first console was an Atari but it had to be one of the last models. It was replaced by the nintendo and i was so amazed at the "enhanced" graphics. LOL, does anyone remember when that was? Seems like a long while back.

Wayyyyy back in 1985 or 1987 for alot of folks.

I mean Nintendo came out in 1985,but it didn't gain popularity till '87 or ''88.
