Great Commercials of the 80s
"POWER!!! UNLIMITED POOWWWEEEER!!!!!!
"Tell me what you regard as your greatest strength, so I will know how best to undermine you; tell me of your greatest fear, so I will know which I must force you to face; tell me what you cherish most, so I will know what to take from you; and tell me what you crave, so that I might deny you."
?Darth Plagueis
"Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. Through strength, I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall free me."Tags: None -
I liked some of the Video game and Toy commercials they had back in the 80's.Feels so......retro now lol.Toys were much better back then.<a href="http://s11.photobucket.com/user/dsaBOSS/media/mui_sig_zpsdfb059b2.png.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a178/dsaBOSS/mui_sig_zpsdfb059b2.png" border="0" alt=" photo mui_sig_zpsdfb059b2.png"/></a><a href="http://psnprofiles.com/XxkamuixX1"><img src="http://card.psnprofiles.com/1/XxkamuixX1.png" border="0"></a> -
I totally remember a bunch of these ads, but as I was reading the list, I said---I bet they don't include "My Buddy"....the most preposterous idea I saw back then. Now perhaps it was because I as already junior high age, so such a toy would never appeal to me, but even back then I wondered why they were making a big ass doll for boys. And the jingle was impossible to clear out of your head...it gets in mine still at times when I am drunk. I can't believe they included it at 49.
Some of the others were not top 80s commercials, but instead reminders of things the authors liked in the 80s. Where's the Beef was one of the most popular and ultimately politically charged commercials.
Also, McDonalds was genious back then. Who doesn't remember--Big Mac, Filet-o-Fish, Quarter Pounder, French Fries! Icy Cokes, Thick Shakes, Sundaes and Apple Pies! You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

I was just a little tyke in the 70s. When I went to watch Star Wars in the theaters, my parents went to watch Saturday Night Fever. Weed, disco and the 1st grade don't mix. Besides, I think the disco era/Studio 54 was when coke really came on strong in that scene. You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

Yeah, ealry 80's was the time of coke, weed was out for the most part, crack was mid to late 80's, then weed made a comeback in the late 80's and then got big again after Dazed and Confused came out between my fresh and sophmore years in college. late 90's heroine made a comback, why I have no idea, Trainspotting maybe. Funny how movies influence drug use.

Trainspotting certianly enhanced the notoriety of heroin during the time. But in reality, it was making a pretty big comeback on the streets beforehand. River Phoenix got hooked on it while researching for "My Private Idaho"--the movie where Keanu Reaves' sexuality first really came into question--and hanging out with heroin junkies who turned gay tricks on the street. That's how he OD'ed.
Maybe some movies open it up to a broader world, but usually things happen before, I think.
For example--coke lost its luster to a lot of young people when Len Bias died on the night he was drafted by the Celtics as the #1 pick. Made it so most of my generation grew up knowing coke had the potential to kill you.
Don't forget that Cheech and Chong went a long way toward popularizing drugs---not to mention the ever popular Grateful Dead, Pink FLoyd's the Wall, and laser light shows. :roll:You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!
