Nasty 'lil critter...

A few days ago, while I was right in the middle of a conversation with RaTix, My computer totally crashed while Norton picked up a nasty 'lil critter which crashed my puter instantly, causing it to shutdown, and while re-booting, would crash again, and kept doing so until this morning, when I went online with my other 'puter and went online with windows98 (much better proggy) and learned how to disable this monsterous 'lil beast.

The site my GF went to is called "humoron.com". The site itself is clean, but if you click on any of the videos posted there, you're asking for it.

The name of this nasty trojan is called "Trojan VX 11". Not only totally crashed my 'puter, but also locked me out of windows task manager (Ctrl,Alt, Del) so you can't see what proggys are running, so you can shut it down. Had to reboot in safe mode, and then do a complete system restore. Do NOT go to that website. It seems that when Norton detected this vicious trojan, it automatically activates a self destruct built into the Trojan, to keep you from deleting it, while crashing your 'puter over and over again.

Sorry RaTix, I wasn't being rude by leaving in the middle of our conversation, My shit crashed hard, just got everything working this afternoon.

As a professional Tech, I would suggest you DITCH Norton’s and get yourself AVG. Free or pro version both are good. Norton's, McCrapee's, and The like all suck. They are the first programs hackers and virus programmers attack first since they are so main stream. AVG and Ewido for your anti-Spyware and you'll never have a problem.

I agree with Ratix, Norton blows and it seems to interfere with alot of stuff and can really bog down a cpu.

yup on my compy it takes 10 min to start up after i log in ... 5 min for norton and 5 min for zone alarm it sux

The reason I missed practice on thurs night is because Norton Utilities was installed on my computer (and I didn't want it to). So when it appeared that my old PC was dying and I bought a new one, I needed to transfer the contents of my old drive onto my new one. I bought an enclosure and attached my drive to my new pc. It couldn't read teh drive...so after much searching and screwing around, I found in msft's knowledge base that "go back" (from roxio and also norton) which backs up your drive prevents the drive from bieng read by other pcs. So we had to rig my PC to not shut down and burn out while we tried to remove go back from my old drive. took hours to do.

Norton sucks. I still use the virus protection because I paid for it already. but it is a resource hog. Norton utilities is coming nowhere near my new PC. I will look into this software you described ratix.

The new version of Norton that I installed, although the new virii fought it tooth and nails, found 25 high risk problems on my 'puter, including a dialer proggy (thank Gawd I have DSL!!!) and several adware virii.

I was wondering why when I was trying to login with my Admin password, why it wouldn't work. I found out why. One was even a "keystroke" proggy.

Luckily, in all truth I visit very few websites. But My GF likes to go to every wierd website that offers strange videos, that for some odd reason she enjoys. Now she knows to use the other 'puter that has win' 98 on it.

You'd like to think that if these guys have this much talent at computers, they'd be working for Bill Gates. Personally, I'd like to chop their fingers off with a machete, end of problem, once and for all.
