do I have to have a LOGITECH headset or can I have just any headset?

you can have any one that you choose, that's just a nicer one. I have the crap 20 dollar one cuz I dont feel like spending 50 bucks on a mic.

Actually some USB headsets don't work with socom3. You had to have a PS2 compatible one---and it was impossible to know whether it was.

Toast dropped off in large part because his headset didn't work on socom.

I am currently using the linked logitech 350 with socom CA and I have no more problems than anyone else. There are quite a few mic related glitches in the game.

do the new systems (ps3 or xbox360) use USB mics? if so, i might buy another usb mic like this.

Don't know about the PS3, but the 360 does not use a USB mic. The 360 mic comes with the wireless controller (if you get the Pro pack, you get a wireless controller and mic) and it plugs directly into the controller not the console (old xbox did that as well). The beauty of this is that you have no cords at all to trip you up. I can step away from the TV when in between games and still chat with people while I go get myself a drink from the fridge or some food. I also have dropped it a couple times as a result, but it seems to be fine.

looks like the ps3 has usb ports also, so this might be a nice pick up.

The 360 has USB ports, but they aren't for the mic.

The PS3 supports bluetooth headsets (for wireless) and also allows use of ps2 compatible headsets. So it appears this headset should be perfectly functional for that as well.
