me should i do single player or could i join a server to get some practice in before tryouts on saturday

It's probably better to join a server and warm-up a little bit. if one of the DSA servers doesn't have a good amount of people, join a firefight server and practice against the AI. They're on some crazy steroids and will get you ready for the tryout.
