Nice find EagleOne, I am sure it will be of the most quality in the battlefront series but I wonder about the 64+ player limit. If it is true does that mean there will be no AI? I would seriously love the realistic warzone feel with that many players added the number of AI but can LA really support that kind of atmosphere looking back at the lack of patches on battlefront 2 given to the ps2 version?

If LA and Free Radical put some serious effort into battlefront 3 then I could see a great shooter for the next gen systems. I already like what I see Free Radical is doing with Haze and I only hope they make battlefront 3 something to really look forward to.

This link was posted in May of this year and contemplated a potential 2007 launch? It was never presented at E3 or TGS or the German one. I don't expect to see it in 2008. I also don't believe that LA has ever publicly confirmed its development. Not from what I have seen yet. I'll chalk this up to more wishful thinking and rumor than anything else.

Regardless, if it does come together, I hope that the various platforms get equal consideration in the design as the PS2 SWBF2 was a MUCH weaker version of the game. Completely invisible Bothans, only one assault map, fewer characters, cruddy servers....hopefully that can be chalked up to the technical inferiority of the PS2 to the Xbox. Furthermore, I hope that the high capabilities of the next gen consoles means that the games don't have to be so disparate.

As for 64 person games...I tend to feel like that is more conceptually interesting than in reality. The design challenges of making a game work for 32 on a side is different than for 16, and different still for 8. Ideally a game would need to accommodate all three sizes to optimize enjoyment for just a few friends playing together or for an epic battle.

ya but just imagine like a huge war of 32 clan mates on each side. imagine how hectic and how crazy that would be!!

then again imagine all the mic chatter even if there were numerous channels lol it'd be like a real war. squads all over, tactics forming and breaking, assaults and defense points, man that would be something to see

We have all the ideas now its up to LA if they wish to assign development of the game to a group.
People have been speculating about it on the LA forums since SWBF2 was released so i'm not to sure if LA has seen that yet.Its quite the task to create a video game(unless your making ET in 2 weeks) so I wouldn't be suprised if the game is in its planning stages.
Also the hurdles of 64 people rooms would have to be overcome. In SWBF and majority of online games when people start to gather up on one screen the game gets veryyyy laggy.I vaguely recall Perfect Dark Zero on the 360 having possible 64 player rooms, but that was something I heard about so long ago when 360 was going to be released so I don't know if that was really true or not.

Warhawk manages to do a good job with large rooms in terms of lag from what I hear. My issue is only partly lag--since it is very often one bad connection that screws up a whole room. But more around game design. To satisfy a huge group of people in a shooter requires very different weapons and map layouts than small groups--so it is hard to be a game that can accommodate both and do so well.

Again---huge rooms conceptually seem appealing (it's like SWBF1 with all AI on, but set to Super Duper Hard) for those seeking epic battles, but very often in execution, things are found lacking.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - August 23, 2006 - LucasArts today announced an agreement with Free Radical Design to develop a new video game for next-generation console platforms. Product and release details will be unveiled at a later date.

"Free Radical has always been about titles with great gameplay and innovative design," said Peter Hirschmann, Vice President of Product Development at LucasArts. "In the battle for videogame quality, these guys are at the front of the line. This team's pedigree is one of the best in the business."

"In recent years, LucasArts has established itself as one of the hottest publishers on the planet," said Steve Ellis, Director at Free Radical, "We're honored that they're every bit as interested to be working with us as we are to be working with them."
Could the Bold words prove to be hints?

Guys, this is from August 2006! Old news....but I saw an interview awhile back with the director of marketing for LA and she said emphatically that they were committed to the franchise, we just won't hear anything until after Force Unleashed comes out probably.

Since if it's made, it's going to be made by Free Radical, I'll expect a fast paced game like Goldeneye for the 64 or Timesplitters, I'm assuming it will be like those as they were made by Free Radical.

they also did Perfect Dark, although technically for this and Goldeneye they were still apart of Rare. Also, I guess there's a good chance that it would be a FPS.

lol how is this offtopic, it's talking about the guys who will supposedly make this game and I'm making assumptions based off of their past work.
