Ken Kutaragi, creator of the PlayStation console, will retire from his post as Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s chairman and group CEO, effective June 19, Sony Corp. said. The announcement comes a few months after Sony said Mr. Kutaragi would give up oversight of day-to-day operations to focus on long-term issues such as the next console after PlayStation 3. Kazuo Hirai, who was appointed chief operating officer of the unit in December, will become CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. Mr. Kutaragi will serve as honorary chairman of the unit and will support Sony Chief Executive Howard Stringer as senior technology adviser.
