When he first was on the air, nobody watched the show. The only guests they got were guys from NBC shows. My brother used to be an NBC exec and always told me he could get me tix to conan without any problem---SNL was much harder as was the Tonight Show. I have seen SNL 2x (once with Matthew Broderick, once with Alec Baldwin doing the Shwetty Balls skit) and one Tonight Show. Oddly, I never went to Conan despite having it readily available--I was traveling too much for work.
