    re

Blu-Ray is pretty much replacing the standard DVD with the quality it offers and the PS3 has a variety of downloadable content (games, demos, trailers, movies, etc) which I see many don't know this. Customer service was great on helping me get started with an online account and to get used to the many features the PS3 offers, even today I find their service reliable.
360 has had all these options for some time. As far as HD goes, They are available all over the internet for DL and multiple media bases. I cant speak for Others, but when im deployed I keep all my movies HD and not on an external drive which requires no disc. So in my own mind I think a majority of the populas (buisness based/ working class) are moving away from discs all together (also less chance of it being stolen). I dont have anything against blue ray or ps3. I just prefer not having to tote around discs to watch a movie, the disc space i do have is used for games.

As far as 360 upping the warranty, I only know of one person (im in physical contact with) that had to send it in. He had a new one back in less than a week with no questions asked. Funny thing is, I also know one person who had problems with a PS3 and his turn around time was the same. Guess we'll see where it all leads. Best of luck to both systems. The stats for Wii seem a bit unrealistic thought.

I never doubted PS3's customer service just can't speak of it for myself.

There are quite a few games I look forward to one of them being Warhawk, also there is a PS3 exclusive coming out later this year called Haze. Its being made by Ubisoft and Free Radical which I believe are the same people working on SWBF3. I will be sure to post some trailers on it as I encourage there be a slot for this game in the PS3 division.

Haze looks to be one of the most intense war games on the PS3. When I get PS3 later this year, Haze and SOCOM: Confrontation will be the games I own for a while:D

Haze is multiplatform for 360, ps3 and PC. But it does look interesting.

Actually I have been reading that Free Radical announced that it will be first released for the PS3 and shortly after there was no news about it for the other platforms so its unsure whether or not it will be an exclusive or multiplatform. Either way the game looks great and I am keeping myself updated on this game, hopefully E3 will have some more info on it.

Haze has gone back and forth, they started the site with the PS3, 360 and PC logos and after bit they dropped the 360 and PS3 with the announcement that the PS3 was going to get an earlier release then the other two.

There's a couple of reasons thrown out as to why. One being the big releases coming out on the 360 at the same time. There is a rumor of a conflict with M$ over a couple of things and a rumor that Sony promised them "XYZ" to become and exclusive. In their videos showing the progress of the game they blur out the consoles in some of the scenes which doesn't do much when the blur is the same color as a 360 and the blurred out controller is the same color and shape as the 360.

I think Haze is going to be a great game. I hope it is released for both consoles and I hope that it doesn't get buried under the Halo3 hype, but hey if they worked out a deal with Sony for some great perks more power to them!

ah. That 's funny because the last stuff I saw about it was definitely multi-platform. But 2007 is pretty heavy on shooters for the 360, so I could totally see Free Radical not seing the development being worth it. In addition to Halo3, there are a lot of PC gamers out there looking for Unreal Tournament and teh new Unreal Engine from Epic (a newer version of the engine that drove Gears). At least that is what I heard. Too Human, yada yada. Only so many shooters I want to play--which is why I never gave Lost planet a whirl.

But will a price drop actually result in more PS3 sales?.

I dunno. Hard to say. I'm sure in the short term some gamers might bite the hook, but they were probably already leaning that way, and a price drop would give them the proper nudge to go ahead and get the darn thing.

Gamers are a fickle bunch. Ya don't see a lot of games for the new Colecovision now, do ya?, or the Dreamcast, which at the time was a damn fine machine. Companies, like people make bad decisions from time to time. We don't have a magic ball to see into the future. I'm sure there are execs at IBM can go back in time and choke themselves when a nobody named Bill Gates showed up at their doorstep with a new program he called "Windows".

At the time they were thing "Why in the heck would a Granny in Des Moines need a computer for? Bahahahahaha!!!!!!:D"

                  OOPS!

Remember, at the time, Nintendo was VERY wary of this new game being pitched called "Pokemon", which it was first only ported as a gameboy game, just to see if it would sell. It almost wasn't released.

But what really suprises me from time to time is that some developers don't learn from their mistakes. If Sony would've paid more attention to what MS was doing with their online content, even with the original X-Box, they might've been sitting at a much better place in the marketplace in this point in time. I don't know if it's a "west VS east philosophy", but no matter how much PS2 owners bitterly complained about problems, Sony just wouldn't listen to us. But Microsoft WAS listening. So now their sitting at a much better place than Sony. It's the oldest rule of business:

"Build a better mouse trap, and the world will beat a path to your door."
With their money in hand...lol. Sony IS learning from their mistakes, but the pace is just too slow in my opinion. Maybe it's all suits and ties they have to deal with, or too much corporate red tape and beauracacy, but they lost touch with their consumer base, with their wants and needs are, and how to quickly meet them.

PS2 gamers loved "Black", then groaned at the complete lack of online content.

Some say that if BFMC2 had set up their servers up for private rooms so you could keep the cheaters, glitchers, and teamkillers out, the game would've been hailed as the best online shooter ever made.

And I don't even have to comment on the horror of SWBF2.

                  Who knows?.

                  Des.

I seem to recall a little game series known as SOCOM that has had tens of thousands of more players than any other PS2 game. The first Socom game was also the first online shooter and revolutionized online interfaces for every subsequent title on the PS2.

But the question is Forest, will a $100 price drop increase sales of the PS3?

If SoCom 4 is a PS3 exclusive, would it help with more PS3 sales overall?
SoCom is good, but could it be the next "blockbuster" Sony needs to re-establish itself with it's consumer base?

If you were in charge of Sony, what would you do increase sales of the PS3?

First, I would focus on establishing a solid title such as Socom, but make sure not to leave my players in the dark. The problem the Socom series has been plagued with is that Zipper makes one update and then abandons that title for the next one. For Ps3, two new Socom titles are in line to be put out. The first is Socom Confrontation, which is giving socom fans everything they asked for in all of the old maps, blood, and customization of characters, and better graphics. Socom 4 will be the next step in the Socom lineup offering 64 player combat on maps 4 times the size of large killing fields. PS3 is coming out with some great titles like WarHawk among others, and so long as they keep customer service up and keep coming out with updates, then PS3 will definately come from behind in the console says.

Lmao! forest you and your silly socom.

I honestly think that sony has dug there whole to deep, and if they need to revive there selves. They sure do need a bigger game then haze burnout resolution or what ever and Socom 4.

They need something drastic. Take this for example. Halo 1,2,3 and halo wars have its series and is a huge HUGE HUUUUGEE! Wammy to the 360 presentation. not to mention gears of war crackdown call of duty. All of these great games made a big time on the xbox. Especially halo. Halo has been the number one seller for xbox just for people buying the damn thing just so people can play that damn game!

Now ask yourself this. If sony cant come out with a bigger game then socom. What does that tell you.

Sony is at the point they are struggling for an opening in the gaming industry.

They are looking for that right game to set off a hit in the ps3 market.

And I can GAURNTEEE! YOU!!! that socom confrontation is not that game.

Look at the wii!!! The wii is selling bigger then both microsoft and sony! why? because hideki matsui invented a way so that people can actually get IN TO the game. By physically moving a wand around. And yet another brilliant idea!

Wii is at there peek right now where they have the chance to launch something big instead of super smash bros.(love that game) A into fighting shooting bang bang hardcore game that people can get into and you really have to use the wii for. Its there court. On the other hand with 360 with a plan of line ups for games. no telling what could happen.

Sony will not make it very far unless they make something big!

Sony just may end up with there heads up there @$$'*.

But hey! It's just reaver talking right? Im on skittles right now so dont listen to me.

socom did revolutionize onling consoles shooter gaming. But now there are so many of them, it is hard to determine what is superior. After all, it was even posted here on this site where a call of duty trailer was believed to be socom. Does not lead to very clear distinctions amongst brands.

Confrontations seems awesome. a 64 person socom? Not for me. Socom3 sucked to me because of the big maps, created a vehicle and sniping only scenario, and in a team survival setup, that is just too much time not actually shooting anything. Socom3 and CA appear to be the least popular of the socoms after big socom2 popularity. Taking these games and making them more of before? unless they have found a way to keep gameplay interesting, I think it is a mistake. But socom confrontations is essentially socom2 style on next gen. Makes sense.

Anyway, as revolutionary as socom was for the ps2, it isn't recognized as the game that was the killer app. Grand theft auto was. Nothing of that sort had ever been seen before. Much like Gears was for the 360 or Halo and Halo 2 were for the xbox. The PS3 needs a game that defines the console for prospective buyers out there and gets them to pull out their wallets. Gears commercials coupled with reviews did that for the 360 and essentially doubled US sales for the 360. The PS3 needs that game title that will do that.

And Des, I think $100 price drop DEFINITELY makes a difference. If I take DSA as a sampling of loyal Sony customers who have not yet bought a next gen system, it seems that price is a big sticking point. $100 doesnt' make it cheap, but it is also less outrageously expensive.

So does anyone have an OS on there next gen system? I saw on a PS3 it has the option of installing other OS's on it directly from the main menu. Could you in turn play a PC game on a PS3, or 360 with Windows or some other OS installed on it? I mean lets face it, these things are PCs, and if you can install an OS on it, why buy a PC? Can external HDD be used on these systems? I mean they have USB ports. I am downloading all my media to an external HDD, so I don't need a big HDD on the system, especially if it will read/write to it. I thought the whole reason Sony went with the HDD used in laptops was so you could changed them out, or upgrade them? I know you can remove and replace them, so surely you can buy a huge 100+GB drive and use it right? (Thats a lot of acronyms, hopefully they are all right lmao)

I haven't really looked into that too much, but I think you can only install Linux on PS3's. It looks like, obviously, someone would have to adapt a version of Windows specifically for the PS3 for that to work. I've seen online where people have replaced the PS3's hard drive with a larger one, so you can definitely do that. I don't think the PS3 can read non-media files (text, spreadsheets, etc.) but I don't see why plugging in an external hard drive through a USB port would be any different from using a flash drive. Most machines plugged into a USB port are recognized as a "USB Device".

                                Another edit, lol:
