No no no. Survivor had a few power ballads that were hits. I Can't Hold Back. High on You. The Search is Over. Is This Love. Burning Heart. (I had to google them to get some of these song titles).
I remember Putting on the Ritz. You know it is just a cover of an OLD OLD song right? I want to say it is Irving Berlin, but I may be wrong. Need to look that up. But the best rendition of the song was not by Taco. It was by Gene Wilder and Peter Boyle in Young Frankenstein. You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

O man I love both Peter Boyle and Gene Wilder, it sux they are both dead. Very funny guys.
Speaking of little known originale artists. Metallica covered and got their style of metal inspired by a band called Budgie. Breadfan, which is a great Metallica song was actually a cover from Budgie.
And I agree with Ian. How do you live? It's tough to do anything without listening to some background music. If you're inputing data all day just throw on some jazz for background noise. I love to put on Jazz when I'm cooking a nice meal.

First of all Sublime is Ska.
Second of all anything can be good backround music, what about some instrumental stuff like classical, and blues would be great to be working on a computer.
Music is good for you, to me just as important as food water and shelter it gives you an escape from the world. One shot, One kill.Comment

1st:Sublime said that great music Is great it has no genre and they have been placed under many cataglories but most known for being in Reggae
2nd: I use olde rock like Led zeppelin because it's very mellow and its my version of jazz meelow with that motivating kind of tune and your right anykind can be used you have to find one best suited for you. And music Is an escape from the real world like they say " Kick back and get lost in the melody"Last edited by SPIKE; 10-25-2007, 09:34 PM.sigpic

I listened to only metal for most of my life. As your musical pallet expands, you will come to realize there is a lot of good stuff to listen to besides metal. I was angry then I started to mellow out and listen to the Beatles and revisit music I heard while growing up (Queen, Rod Stewart). Cramming 32 notes into a bar doesn't always make good tunes. Now I find that I can't stand these new/nu metal bands. Maybe it's a generational gap in metal (a lot of these younger fans don't like Slayer and megadeth, but like Lamb of God and Slipknot. Who I think are both horrible) I used to be just like you man, your taste will change. Besides it's harder to pick up a woman when you have some angry dude screaming about satan blaring from your car as oppssed to Jack Johnson or Ben Harper.
As far as bands that can't be categorized, I think TOOL and Radiohead are the first 2 bands that come to mind. Love em both. Bands that can't be contained by a definition usually are bad ass.

I agree tony Im more of a old school metal kind of guy I like slayer (not very old but not the point) Judas preist, Mega death, Motley crue, AC\DC, and Etc.
the rest of it Is they just now dont worry bout how it sounds all they care about is money so they make almost pure static with a guitar in the backgroundsigpic

1st Yes, but mostly no. Syncopated rhythms don't = ska (although using Gwen Stephani in a song sure pushes you there)
2nd Defiantly not, I can think of 100s of things I would not want as BG music.
3rd Well glad to see your right about something. Maybe not "escape" but "perspective" in the sense that it can put you in a different place (which can be escapist in some circumstances so yeah)
Not picking on you or anything. I just can't stand to see people opinions shaped without the influence of my own. ;)Comment

I think that Britneys new song is grate. and, I think the new Backstreet Boys album will rool. Also, since I am an OG, I like 50 cent's new album better than Kanye's.
The one thing I think is interesting about music is that certain genre's tend to not only attract certain types of people, those people tend to get influenced by the music to be even more conformed to the type of people that listen to the genre. The circular logic behind this is always fascinating to me as music is so influential in how people choose to act, dress, and keeping the company of specific types of people At the same time, the music's influence tends to only be on those specific types of people to begin with. This isn't universally true--but is often the case. One can stereotype the avid listeners of different genres of music and so much of it can be accurate. You're the best! Around! Zabka if your an OG it would be like grand master flash, public enemy, Hudini, and the many other GOOD rap artist. Im not much of a fan my self But I found a huge repeating process in the new generation that is, " I live in the ghetto Im a pimp I cap them 'Niggas' because they fake and Ive been shot" Kanye tryed somthing differant but still falls in that line. though Ive heard he rather be jesus over a P I M P. But its true that music has its influences on people and it affects them in certain ways like how they dress.

Well if it's one thing I have its opinions.
Back to what Tony said thats not necissarily true because I love bands like Slayer and Megadeth and I absulutly ****ing HATE slipknot. What about bands like Unearth and As I Lay Dying? not nu metal but still metal in a sense and i love both of those bands.
To only listen to any one genre is to isolate yourself from a whole world of things that you might enjoy.
I prefer musicians over performers however some performers are still good at what they do. I draw the line on who writes the material If the whole song is written for you and dances taught to you your not a musician you're a performer. Musicans write there own songs. I'm not bashing any one side i just call them different things. One shot, One kill.Comment
