    Need some college advice

The end of my first semester back after 2 years is almost over, but now that we've reached the end I'm starting to get anxiety attacks about failure :(.I've been doing great so far.Usually I stink at math, but now i'm doing excellent.
Any advice on keeping cool my cool near the finals ?I've been studying on a daily basis if thats a plus.

Kamui dealing with many tough decisions and experiences in life, you face a difficult but actually a great experience. You see you've matured much since your last college pursuit and realized how important a college degree is to yourself. This extra pressure on you has given you the anxiety you now face. This is a good thing and not a bad thing. I know that sounds crazy, but that anxiety is constantly putting you in check. It keeps reminding you that you need to do everything possible and be scrappy to get through college. It also burdens you that you may not get another opportunity in life to get through school . As you've noticed you've probably have made leaps and bounds in your efforts at school compared to your last try. This pressure and anxiety you feel will make you very successful at college and when its done you will see the benefits.

I had the same thing when I was in college. I didn't try at all in high school and escaped with a 2.0. After going through the army, I matured and realized what i wanted. It was very difficult for me to get accepted in school. Once I did, I had the same anxiety and studied my butt off. When it was all done, I had a 3.0 and double majored in Economics and Operations Management. I still had that same determination when I work at my other job.

So overall, don't panic about the pressure and stay hitting the books. Show the world why you want a degree.

what Gino said is good advice. Only other advice I can give you is to make sure you get a good night's sleep before the exams, eat a good meal and the rest will take care of itself.

          Good luck man

Only other thing to realize is that to the degree that finals are a big part of your grade, knowing how to take exams is not just about studying, but also about test taking skills. Those skills are separate from actually knowing the subject matter. Mostly, they are a matter of practice. That's the mistake many people make with standardized tests---they don't practice enough.

So to the degree you have access to practice exams, past exams, etc. use them and try to simulate testing conditions. So you get comfortable with budgeting your time accordingly and dealing with problems you don't quite get right off the bat. If there are essay exams, maintaining the structure of the 5 paragraph essay and emphasizing the first and last sentences of your paragraphs is useful. if they are other types of exams, practice studying for them in as similar a setting as you will be tested.

It's okay to have some anxiety---your body's natural response will kick in some adrenalin as a result. Just don't let it become panic. And if you are prepared on both the content and the structure, then it can't cause you to panic. Because you should be in a position to crush it. Good luck.

Dress up and wear fancy clothes the day of the test. That way, if you feel like you failed miserably, people are constantly giving you looks and telling you how great you look. It's a win-win, really... it works I swear.

And blow off steam. Don't know about your school, but mine had Midnight Breakfast the week before finals. Eat pancakes and play cards and study a little, and it makes you less crazy.

Kamui, I get stressed out too. Maybe look into some books or web sites about relaxation.
