    Heath Ledger found dead

Actor Heath Ledger Dead At 28
Sources: Death May Be Drug-Related; Pills Found Scattered In NYC Residence
NEW YORK (CBS) ― Heath Ledger, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the critically-acclaimed movie Brokeback Mountain, has died, sources tell CBS 2.

The Australian-born actor was just 28.

He was pronounced dead at 3:26 p.m. in his downtown Manhattan residence by his housekeeper, who discovered him in cardiac arrest and called 911, an NYPD spokesperson says. He was apparently scheduled to have a massage in his apartment this afternoon.

Sources tell CBS 2's Scott Weinberger the death may be drug-related and that there were pills scattered around the room.

Ledger had recently separated from his wife, actress Michelle Williams. The couple have one daughter, Matilda, who was born in 2005.

Before marrying Williams, Ledger had also dated actress Naomi Watts and Heather Graham.

Most currently, Ledger was featured in the Bob Dylan biography film "I'm Not There."

He is also appearing in the next installment of the "Batman" movie opposite Christian Bale as the infamous "Joker" and was in the midst of filming "The Imaginarium Of Dr. Parnassus."

Of the most well-known 15 films Ledger appeared in: "The Patriot," "A Knight's Tale," and "Monster's Ball." He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in "Brokeback Mountain."

Ledger grew up in Perth, and began doing amateur theater at age 10. At 16, he moved to Sydney to pursue an acting career, quickly landing TV movie roles and guest spots on Australian television.

After several independent films and a starring role in the short-lived Fox TV series "Roar," Ledger moved to Los Angeles and costarred in "10 Things I Hate About You," a teen comedy reworking of "The Taming of the Shrew."

Offers for other teen flicks came his way, but Ledger turned them down, preferring to remain idle than sign on for projects he didn't like.

"It wasn't a hard decision for me," Ledger told the Associated Press in 2001. "It was hard for everyone else around me to understand. Agents were like, `You're crazy,' my parents were like, `Come on, you have to eat."'

He would have turned 29 on April 4.
Very surprising and sad. I liked him as an actor in some of his roles and I was especially looking forward to The Dark Knight, although I suppose it will still be shown.

Thats a tragedy for his daughter who will now really never know her dad and will only be able to see him on DVD. It makes you wonder what possibly could have been so wrong in his life that he decided to take his life...

that is too bad, he was a very likeable character, my sister-in-law had a huge crush on him.

He separated from Michelle Williams. They were supposed to be VERY happy in Brooklyn, but once they both started working again after Brokeback, they broke up. It's a tough situation. But I would imagine that being separated and away from his daughter might have contributed. On the other hand, it is also possible that he was on drugs before and that is why the marriage failed.

          It's a shame.

I'd heard from somewhere on tv that since he had been travelling a lot lately and couldn't sleep he had been taking Ambien and that he could have possibly forgotten he was still under it's effects or something and took some other drugs that may have caused the overdose, instead of it being suicide.

thats what i heard to christ. They also had a quote from him in november stating that his role as the joker in the upcoming batman movie affected his ability to sleep.

                yep

i must say i was really stunned when i heard about this, the guy had everything you could want. he's a year older then me with a kid, and to go out that way, just is all bad. The sad thing is in this day, alot of people take too many pills and stuff like this happens because of it. I myself wont even take an aspirin for a headache, let alone sleeping pills. Makes me think maybe he should have just burned a few and passed out.

                  Wicked this reminds me....

I forgot to tell you while you were up here that Ryan Caresco died the day after my birthday. Except he was drunk, took a bunch of pills and choked on his own vomit. Wrap your head around that one dude.

In one of the stories I read, it said he was sleeping 2 hours a night, and one of them was from Ambien. It is really hard to OD on Ambien. It is a different type of sleep drug than the habit forming downers that were so in vogue in the 70s. I would be shocked if it was still Ambien that he was taking.

As an update to this story, his Autopsy was inconclusive. He was ill with Pneumonia at the time as well. It will be awhile before the toxicology report comes back with a conclusive cause of death, but as of now, it doesnt look like suicide.

                          That's pathetic as hell
that said, after what I'm sure was a disgusting display of intolerance by those idiots, and his memorial, his body is being flown back to Australia where he will be buried in his hometown

Apparently he was banging Mary Kate Olsen. She got more calls from the masseuse before 911 did.

That's just such an odd coupling--one of the Olsen twins and him.
