Gino, the Ravens comparision makes no sense. McNair got injured the first game of the year and ended up missing nine games. Their defense played alright for a 5-11 team. But, basically, when Kyle Boller has to be your quarterback for most of the year, you're in bad shape.
Neither does your explaination of the Saints make any sense, either. Their defense was an issue even in 2006, as the Bears proved in that Championship game. In 2007, their defense was even worse. They gave up over 40 points on opening night, and that secondary was a sive. Add in that Deuce McAllister is lost for the year with an ACL tear, destroying the "Thunder and Lightning" combination of him and Bush from 2006. Not to mention, they lost a game because of poorly executed double reverse.
A loss in the post season I don't think ever has an impact on the next season. The loss in momentum hardly ever carries on that long. And let's face it: Sean Peyton and Brian Billick combined don't amount to the coach that Belichick is. I know they didn't go 19-0, but there is something to be said for going 18-0 until the Super Bowl. This is the second time in four years they've had a winning streak of 18. That is a testament to the focus that Belichick has. He doesn't allow his players to get distracted or to worry about past performances. I believe that when the 2008 season starts up, Bill will have his players ready to go out there. And with the type of players he has, he should have no problem going at least 12-4.
