If you want to save the money and maybe move somewhere, that may be the best idea. In all likelyhood, you're not going to get a few hundred dollars that you don't know what to do with for a while, not at least until you get a very nice tax return.

Personally, I'd stick with the money and see what happens down the road. Maybe use some of the money to get a few nice 360 games that are coming out down the line like GoW2 and LOTR:Conquests. That way, if you decided to do something like moving, you won't be as completely in a financial hole as you would if you got a game system.

I'm going to restrict my opinion based on the question and am not gonna tell you about saving your money or anything. Might be irresponsible of me but here it goes.

I hardly play my Wii. The online is ok, but without a mic or anything its not too good. The best fun I have had with it is playing with other people that come over, or I bring it to my brothers house and the kids and adults all play bowling or tennis together. Saying that I still plan on getting Mario Kart, and I will probably get the Wii version of Force Unleashed, unless the PS3 version has online, and, or the dueling that the Wii will have. The controls for that game seem awesome, and I think my son and I will have a blast with the dueling. As far as Brawl is concerned, I only play it with the classic remote. The online for it is ok, but unless you are in a private room, there is no way to know who you are playing with. It just comes up as Player 1, Player 2 etc. So you don't get that satisfaction of being in a public room and saying "yeah I just destroyed rdaug". Even then without a mic you would just be saying that to yourself. You can program in 4 different sayings that can appear on the screen like you character said them for everyone to read, but again that only works in private rooms. Soul Caliber Legends is a decent game, but Kamui is right that not too many third party games are worth it.

PS3 seems to be solid. I'm sure the 360 has some of the same features but just a few non gaming features I like so far is the web browsing, (even though I wish some more flash players were available) the Divx compatibility, (I have over 500gb of movies in Divx format on my external HD that I finally have connected to my PS3) and online chat. Yeah the Blu-ray and HD stuff, but I don't have an HDTV or any Blu-ray movies so it wasn't a big seller for me. The wireless stuff is awesome. No wires for internet, (Wii is wireless also which I love) or controller, or mic. I love being able to lay in bed an play (I'm so lazy). I just powered the system up, it read my wireless, and I was on in seconds. As far as games, well I only have 3 so far. Warhawk is by far the best. I am not too happy with Madden 08 but it just might be the game itself for me. I like 07 a lot better though because there seems to be too much trash talking from the players on screen in 08, and the game play feels kind of jerky to me. Resistance I am really kind of disappointed about. I was so looking forward to it, but to me, its not too different from many other FPS. Warhawk is so awesome though, and truthfully I haven't played too much of the other games.

Because I already have a 4 year scholarship to a community college down here. Tuition and all.

Oh, I guess you won't need money for anything else while you're in college. Books, lab fees, dorms, meal plans, parties, women, bills, transportation, clothes, ETC.
Trust me any money you have in college is a luxury. i think buying another video game system is a huge waste. Also another temptation/distraction from hitting the books. But you don't need to me to give you advice, look at other DSA college members right now. Mui, Master ian, and others. They know first hand.

I did college for 4 and a half years and I learned to make little money go a long way. But you'll soon learn how dramatic of a change your life will turn in about 4 months. You can look at this either way, but save your money man. Save your money. Besides its the summer and you shouldn't find yourself bottled up and play vids anyway. Go outside and get a girl. Spend money on her.

Yes,lots of studying is necessary to get around the semester.Video game will have to come in the weekends or after you have accomplished the task of studying.I learned that the hard way this semester and the sacrifice was huge, but I needed to study even if I get out with a C-.

So next semester I will have to study harder and work harder.I can't screw around anymore since I want to be a game developer and loathing around won't help me.

I understand what you all are trying to tell me here and thank you for that.

I was just looking to try other things into the gaming community seeing that is what I am going into. I won't be taking the basics at the college I'm going to though, I will be taking classes I want to pick and use my years in a certain way.

I have been saving up for 3 years and I have well around $2400 put away for college. Not to mention that my parents helped put away for that.

I was just looking for everyones opinion on which console I should get.

And as for the DORMS, The COMMUNITY COLLEGE doesn't have any on campus.

Only off and 3 blocks away. It a 30 minute drive from where I live and It's not bad for TRANSPORTATION.

I'm not entirely sure how far the scholarship follows as in LAB FEES and BOOKS. But I will check into that.

And for the MEAL PLANS and BILLS. It will all stay right with me where I am living untill I decide rent an apartment with a friend.

And as for the PARTIES and GIRLS.. It's a COMMUNITY COLLEGE, so It's very suttle and I'm not sure how wild it can be but I will take that into consideration.

Usually lab fees are not covered in scholarships. That's why they have them. If you are going to be in the gaming community be patient. You'll have to buy all types of programs for your college. Your major will probably be more expensive then most. I'm just giving you advice, nothing more. Patience young padawin.

                        Reaver--

Just curious--I thought most community colleges were for Associates degrees and therefore 2 years in duration. Does your community college offer a 4 year bachelor's degree?

And it will come as no surprise that I agree that you should be saving the money. Take a small slug of it and buy something fun for yourself--but you will want that money.

Put another way--you have $2400 saved that took you years and help from your parents to do so. You are looking to spend $500+ on a game system which represents 20% of your savings currently. To be able to increase your savings by 20% would be meaningful as there are a LOT of expenses that will come down the road for you. Not planning for those expenses would be a mistake.

With the economy languishing, people have been quick to point the finger of blame at banks, the Fed, lenders, etc. But there is also blame that must go towards people who don't even think about the implications of taking on debt or future expenses. Don't start your adult life by digging yourself into too deep of a hole. You will regret it for far longer than you will enjoy however you wasted the money.
You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

I understand Everyones point of view here and I thank you for it.

And it will be taken into concideration heavily.

The funny thing is now that you guys are saying this. My parents are probably going to say it to when I get the money.

lol, I will hold it aside. I don't want to end up in the debt factor like zab said.

                          I appriciate it guys.

i would say ps3, unless you plan on playing with alot of friends then wii. All in all though i would agree with the majority and say hold on to the money, i mean after all you already have a 360 to keep you occupied. A sound system is also nice, but depending on where your from you bump around enough people will know what you have in there and before long some dummy breaks in and takes it. Plus the stock stereo systems these days are not bad at all. Anyways thats my two cents.
