2 weeks no warhawk = sad face

yeah, yellow light of death, wow, it sux. I keep looking at the place where the ps3 was and all I have is a rosary there. Had a toast to the ps3, i played don giovanni for it, the commendatore scene, it was sad.

It sux the game Resident Evil 4 was inside, and when you get the YLOD you can't eject any disc and now it appears to be gone forever. So i had a toast to that great game aswell.

On a happy side note I did get the 2 year warrenty from best buy when I bought it so. I just have to wait for them to send me an e-mail with a paper that I am supposed to attach to the package when I send in the ps3 to best buy and then they will send me back a coupon for 599.99 plus tax so I can get an 80 gig for 499.99:p. I will also get RE4 back too for 15 bucks used.

found this video on youtube.com of what it's probably going to be like for me, trouble is I have to go longer then him...

I didn't even know PS3's had an issue. I didn't get a warranty because I thought the hardware was safer. Great. If people weren't so busy being involved in justifying their own purchases for console wars that the gaming industry created, maybe people would notice that these damn things cost a lot and shouldn't break so easily. At least MSFT bit the bullet on the 3 year warranty. Sony can't afford to do that. Oh well, I have to just hope that the PS3 isn't the POS that the 360 is.

This particular issue is recent and hasn't happened before which is why I was shocked to hear how it occurred. I don't think you need to worry Zabka but you should have gotten that warranty just in case.

In store warranties are widely considered wastes of money. There is a reason why stores offer them. Not to protect the consumer, but to make money. Game Stop had to change the terms of theirs because they were losing money on them for the 360. There are some items that many consumer consider warranties as worthwhile.

Gaming consoles shouldn't be--except the 360's failure rate looks more like 50% and not 30% or the 5% it should be. If the PS3's rate starts to look high (albeit on a delay since this problem is arising a couple years after launch), then the PS3 will lose the main advantage it had.

I don't get it. My PC's all last more than a year. My DVD players all last more than a year. Why can't a gaming console?

I've heard of this little issue which in it's self is rare. I don't know if ya'll remember a story about a guy whos PS3 shut down due to dust, well it appears to be true. You have to keep the area clean not just the PS3. The fan used to cool is pretty strong. I've also read somewhere of a bug getting caught is the fan causing the PS3 to over heat. I recommend cleaning the PS3 and the immediate area twice a week. This is really the only issue the PS3 has or what I have read about.

The hardware itself is very excellent. Remember the black casing of the ps3 attracts dust like a mother******.

Sorry to hear about that Brocman - as for the warranty, I guess you are lucky on that one. Personally I find them to be a major SCAM. There overpriced and you never really use them. And when you do need them, the warranty itself has expired.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. ― Alexis de Tocqueville

So I'm dumb for getting the warranty from Target? :p Joking, I figured I'm paying this much, what's a little more for some warranty? Hell I even got a warranty on my Warhawk game, so if it gets scratched up or something, I can get it replaced lol. With kids, or at least with my kids, warranty's are a must. I do have a tv from walmart that's about 10 years old now that has survived being pissed on by my step son, and a bottle of kool-aid being squirted on by rpup (all happened several years ago) I had to buy like 5 copies of SWBF2 cause the little turds would leave it out when they played their games.

yeah, i found out the yellow light means that there is a failure in the HDD and true enough I took it out and tried to hook it up to the SATA port in my comp and it was dead as dead. I think the rest of the thing works fine.

If it happens to someone and you don't have a warrenty, i would suggest going to the store and buying a random SATA drive and putting it in the ps3 just to see if it works. If you can get it to work again. You can go and buy a HDD with a couple terabytes on it.

Just out of curiosity, was it in an entertainment center? Or sitting on carpet? Consoles need space and air flow. Mighty-Mav's PS3 is in an entertainment center with a glass enclosure, and even with the door open you can just feel massive heat in the cabinet. Vacuuming your vents from time to time is always a good idea too.

it was on my desk, and underneath a vent that keeps the temp in the room around 65 Fahrenheit. I probably could have had it a little farther away from the wall as it was only like 2 to 3 inches from the wall so I will probably do that, I was only vacuuming it once every two weeks so probably have to step it up to like twice a week or something like that.

Aw ****! I have the 60GB that came with it sitting on the shelf just in case.

It's my most common fear. About once every 2 weeks, I will lose power randomly for about 15 seconds. I replaced the 60 with a 160, just for space, but have always kept the 60 around (and right beside the ps3) because they HAVE to do an update every few weeks instead of just leaving things the f*** alone. Everytime I start that download I sit there with fingers crossed until the firmware is installed and the machine is restarted... and the 60 gets another week of chillin on the shelf.

You may want to go grab a 160 GB drive or somethin... you will have to redownload stuff, but your online profiles will be fine and you can re-dl anything you had for free.
