Most recent SWBF3 rumor from IGN

Tip: Free Radical Brings Star Wars to PS3

Sources allege the maker of TimeSplitters is working on Battlefront III for Sony's console.

    by Matt Casamassina

<SCRIPT>showUSloc=(checkLocale('uk')||checkLocale( 'au'));document.writeln(showUSloc ? 'US, ' : '');</SCRIPT>July 9, 2008 - On Tuesday, major online retailer Amazon showed listings for Star Wars: Battlefront III for six platforms, including Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and DS. Those listings have since been removed, either at the request of the publisher or because they were incorrect. After some digging, we're forced to support the former possibility, which is good news for PS3(*360 is written in the 360 section)owners.
Two independent sources have confirmed to IGN that Star Wars Battlefront III is set to hit current-generation consoles, PS3 included. The developer named by both tipsters is Free Radical Design, best known for the TimeSplitters first-person shooter series.
In 2006, Free Radical Design announced that it had entered into an agreement with LucasArts to work on a top-secret property. If our sources are to be believed, it seems likely said property is, in fact, Star Wars Battlefront III.
When asked, officials for LucasArts declined to comment.
The best-selling Star Wars Battlefront II has appeared on five different platforms since its release. Both it and its predecessor featured robust online multiplayer modes in which gamers could choose some of their favorite Star Wars characters and wage war on each other in fast-moving duels to the death. Battlefront III would seem likely to continue the winning formula. LucasArts is not expected to show Battlefront III at E3 2008.

I had a feeling it wasn't going to be too much longer until we heard something about SWBF3. Wonder if there is going to be different versions of the games by different developers, kind of like SWTFU? But seriously though, PS2 and Wii version? Better come out with a mic and headset for the Wii, and fix so much lag and stuff for the PS2. I know they want as much as they can out there, but come on. I hope they don't make if first person, that would be horrible

I hope they tone down the "rocket whoring" in this one.

hope they fix the bugs and glitchs the second one had, that is if they even retain the former maps for the matter.

Can't say that I am surprised (besides reading news on SWBF3) since it was most likely going to take an approach on systems much like SWTFU is. I doubt it will be strictly 1st person, they always had the option to choose between 3rd and 1st so they are probably sticking to that. Hopefully we can expect something at E3.

I'm sure LA doesn't want SWBF3 getting hyped up untill after SWTFU is released. If fans know that BF3 is coming soon, some folks might not pick up the offline action adventure title.

                  maybe...

What the hell do I know though?

But why the big "hush hush, Top Secret" stuff. Wouldn't it be better from LA to just announce it, and tease us with some piccys and new stuff?

They know we want it. I just think it would be better to straight out say their making a new one, or not.

P.S. SWTFU makes me think "So What The F is Up with BF3. It's just a video game. I don't understand the whole "Cloak and dagger" thing. As I've learned more about the new Star Was game coming out, As a Stormy in real life, I was bothered by the trailers showing the main character killing so many Imperials, it disturbed me, as it really didin't make sense to have him killing so many of his own. But since I've learned more about the story, so it makes more sense. But I still don't like it. It would be more fun to me to hunt down Jedi scum, and rebel traitors. But then again, LA didn't hire me to write the story. (Too bad though). lol

I guess they were trying to appease an idealist crowd. As long as you're killing the "bad guys", i.e. storm troopers, "its fine". I agree that killing jedi would be better, but then we'd have a bunch of people in a corner crying every time one is killed. Not that the 3rd movie didn't do that to some people anyways. Whats wrong with good guys dying? Beats me.

There will be plenty of Jedi and rebel scum to destroy in SWTFU so I am not disappointed.

Because some people look up to the good guys too much and if they're gone then it makes things less epic for the bad guys in the story. I remember when I was playing the SWBF2 mission where you had to kill the Jedi (my younger cousin was watching) and each time I took down a jedi my cousin would get so emotional that he cheered the jedi whenever one of them killed me (I am not gonna get into how pissed he got when I played as Vader).

Yeah, little kids I can understand. Might as well let them watch Disney movies all day. But I think it is fair to say that kids who are under 10 years old won't be playing the Force Unleashed. Well, in today's society, who knows. I know a 7 year old who was playing gears of War regularly.
