    interesting facts

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.

    My confession :

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu If people want a crèche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Katrina) Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Thank you Ditch for posting this. It is profound.

Like when Wally World tried to tell their employees to say "Happy Holidays" and tried to forbid them from saying "Merry Christmas". It blew up in their faces and they quickly back pedaled.

As I said at my work the other day (As you all already know how much I depise this modern "interpretation" of Christmas. We have lots of decorations. Lots. But as I told a fellow employee, "Show just one, and I mean just one thing or decoration symbolising Christ" in this store.

    Not even one.

    Nope.

But plenty of Santa's and snowmen.

Santa (Even the real honest to God one that this fictional Character is based on) did not die on the cross to save you from your sins. A sweet gesture of kindness from this saint has blown up into this Godforsaken nightmare we now know as "Christmas".

So now instead of getting together in peace and fellowship for ALL people in a spirit of love and kindness, now leads us to stomp people to
death in a mad materialistic greed for more "crap".

I was recently suprised though in my store the other day. I actually had a couple go through my line with two carts of stuff they were buying. As I was amazed at such an amount, I remarked to them about it. They then told me that they made the decision this year that so many people were hurting financialy, that they decided to take the money that they were going to spend on each other, and instead of giving to each other, they were going to give it all to the poor. I was stunned. Honestly.

Now that is what Christmas is supposed to be about. :D Some people still "get it". But sadly, not enough anymore. Just ask the family of that very brave man that gave up his life protecting a pregnant woman from this greedy horde. Wow. Christmas and the Jewish holiday without God.

Schools can no longer have "Christmas" plays anymore. And trust me I fervently believe in separation of Church and State, but this is just plain stupid. One University even went so far as to forbid ANY form of decorations in their dorms, as it might "offend" someone. And was quickly roasted alive. They also have since "back pedaled".

I'm not offended if I see a Nativity scene at our courthouse. Nor am I offended when I see a Menorah at my friend's house. As a child I grew up in a multicultural neighborhood. We'd holler "Merry Christmas" at a neighbor, and he'd holler back " Happy Honnukah", and we all smiled and waved.

    Not anymore.

Now we have police squads at our stores to make people behave, in their mad lust for more crap.

And the Nativity scene at the Courthouse? It's gone too. As well as the Menorah.

But hey, some "people" were offended. And they won. And we all lost.

But hey, it's okay. There's a great new deal on ipods!!

    *sighs*.

interesting i remember having to say the pledge of allegiance (sp?) in class everyday and now kids don't have to say it because somebody was offended since they are not form the United States.

People need to stop worrying about being pollitically correct all the time it gets annoying when i can't say something cause little timmy might poop his pants. I honestly wouldn't mind if kids prayed in school they don't have to pray to jesus but whatever god they belive in is fine.

Also parents need to take a bigger role in their kids lives. The biggest gift you can give any child is time.

I remember saying the pledge, most people dont know it but they sure do know the macdonalds burger song, and that is not funny ,no it is stupid to know that and not even the pledge of allegance or words to the national anthem,
Brocman I agree with you 100% that is the reason I am always on so late and miss practice, I spend time with my kid's (yup its plural now I got a 6 day old son), then time with my wife then after they are all in bed I get online, it is strange, I had never wanted to be a "family guy" (no reference to the tv show) but I really like being a husband and daddy.

The pledge of allegiance was contested by those who opposed it due to the phrase "one nation, under God", not because it would offend non-Americans. The argument was about church and state.

While I agree that it all seems silly, I also don't think saying the pledge in the morning made people more patriotic or more religious. The focus shouldn't be on the stores and whether Christ (Jesus, not former DSA) should be symbolized in decorations (depictions are likely to be Eurocentric--white brown haired guy who probably looked nothing like the real Jesus---so I don't care about that since they are false depcitions to begin with). We love to blame all these institutions for the problems. My issue is that there is no personal accountability. Families need to teach patriotism, religion needs to be reinforced at home, etc. If the American family unit weren't so disrupted (and most other countries for that matter), we wouldn't have to worry about the other stuff.

I believe in religious freedom, political freedom, free markets, and a host of other things. I also believe that people get their core values from their families. All the other stuff is a distraction, but should be considered just that--a distraction.
You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!
