Please Give Me Advice on This Possible Job

So I am currently looking like many Americans for a job. I check the unemployment website everyday along with craigslist and I got a response from a guy who wants me to sale stuff on Ebay. Here are the e-mails he sent me and what I asked him. Do you guys think this is legit? Or is it a scam? Or am I going to have FBI agents knock my door in and threaten me with guns?

This was listed on craigslist as an office assistant job. His e-mails will be in bold and mine in just normal font.

Thank you for your interest in the seller position ,provided you would need a ebay account in good standing and good feedback. We are seeking sellers for a permant full time postion .This job does take a high level of communication with our staff daily. We monitor the emails 24 hours a day 7 days a week and we are all about customer service and speed of sales. And we think with developed feedback you would be a great addition to the staff and you stand a very good chance of becoming a normal seller. We are looking to fill this position asap when would you be able to begin listing. Also what is your feedback score ?

I have a few quick questions about selling on Ebay with your company. Would I be using my Ebay account? If not, would the money for the products I sale go straight to your account and then I get a percentage of the product that I sale? My Ebay score is 25. I would be able to begin listing immediately but please let me know more about how the financial aspect works with your company.

We provide complete listings that include pictures and descriptions which limit questions from potential clients. As the seller you would post them , interact with potential clients and for every closed sale we pay $200 , which is very easy if u are experienced with ebay . At this point you are paid for the item by the client. Then the seller would take their commisions and ebay fees and forward the remainder to us. We ship all systems within 48 hours. Each seller will have 3-4 listings at a time posted for a time ranging from 24 hours to 3 days each . Selling 4-8 items a week is easily attainable for any seller who is experienced in the realm of ebay. We sell desktops and laptops by Dell ,Apple and Sony and have clearance items and refurb items time to time and also have bonus commissions for sellers 1st a month.

I do not mean to be a hassle I am just making sure that I am not getting into a scam here and getting my identity stolen. So let me make sure I am clear on this. I would sale an item through my account, deal with any questions that may arise, then once the item is sold and paid for I would take $200 in commission and send the rest to you. Now what do I do say for tax reasons? Should I keep money out and saved up to pay taxes on what I sale or does your company use W2 forms? Again I do not mean to be bothersome I just want to get all of the details in order

yes you have it pretty down pat , you would remove your commission plus ebay fees , as for taxes , you are a 1099 employee thus you are responsible for taxes.

When the client had purchased the system and paid u there is a 3 day period in which u would have to transfer the funds that we would have the system prepared to get shipped . Once we recieve the order we send it overnight if the client is in the united states and 3 day air international . Here is your first listing , when u get it listed please email us the item number so we can keep a eye on the item . All of the listings we give u will be listed for 24 hours no reserve and a start price for $300.00 . just cut and paste the description and picture below the line, shipping is $25.00

So the first item is an Apple computer. I have never heard of a company selling things through Ebay going through someone else. Please guys let me know if you think I should do this or tell the guy to kiss my ass. I could use the money.

The grammar in his email is atrocious. It looks like a scam. You get the money, take a cut, then forward to them. They don't have to send a product, you are on the hook.

The most basic question to ask is why they would need to hire people to do this. Especially if they are the same items that they are selling. There really is no reason for them to want to give that much of a cut to somebody else for something that requires almost no labor. If anything, they would want to build up their ratings as a seller as most legitimate businesses on e-bay do.

There is no good business reason that I can think of for them to do this.

      Hey man, got your text.

Yeah I'm with Zabka. I wouldn't sell anything I didn't have in my hands, in my house, and I didn't know worked. They could be completely legit, but it's all in YOUR NAME. Flip it. If you had 50 apple laptops in your bedroom, would you go to this trouble, or would you simply post them to ebay yourself? In the correspondence time with you, they could have posted them already. Sounds waaaay too fishy.

It IS a scam. They have been reporting that shit on FOX news. If you ever want to know just do a search on "job scams"

Here is a article I saw really quick but there are soooo many.

I don't like FOX news I just like criticizing it. Just like Rush Limbaugh.

Think of the millions of others that have already fallen in the scam. They're more desperate than you. And now more behind in money than you. If its too good to be true, research it on the computer.

Solo---want ads can only get you so far. what about temp agencies? Lots of firms are laying off more than they should, but then hire temp staff to fill in gaps. While the hourly pay is more, they don't have to get people full time and can avoid paying benefits.

Times like this also may require thinking outside the normal realm of what you would normally consider for a job. As somebody recently said to me: These days there is no such thing as a career path. Only seats. If you can find a seat, try to keep it.

Another good tip is to never stop, always follow up on job leads, and "maybes". An employer is more likely to respond to an enthusiastic individual than they are to someone who is just sending resumes everywhere hoping for a bite.

Yeah this sounds like a good way to rip people off and let someone else take the blame. But Zabka made a good point got to a temp agency they are pretty busy right now. they can let go of that person making 50,000+ a year and get a temp and pay them $12 and hour.

Yeah, Solo, I work at a temp agency and they pretty quickly find you a job that pays about 12 or 13 an hour. Sometimes it's part time, sometimes it's full time, but it's money in your pocket.
