    Psp-4000 ???

Hey guys check this image I ran into. This would be an interesting design for the PSP2. I can only imagine what you can do this and the PS3's connectivity.

Rumors that just don't want to die usually have some truth to it. And this rumor has been around for ages. VG247 reports that the PSP-4000 is real, and that it will have a "complete aesthetic overhaul," according to their source.

This means this rumored model isn't the PSP2, just a new design based on "existing PSP tech." We probably won't see any real functional changes, then. What's the biggest change? A sliding screen, à la Sony Mylo. The source says that the current design isn't that far away from the fan-made image above.

So when will we see this gee-golly-jeepers-that's-amazing-molly new PSP design? According to the VG247, it will be announced at either GDC or E3. The model itself will be released sometime this year, which concurs with earlier rumors. Personally, I want to see this happen, but I'll believe it when I see it.

PSP needs to be clamshell, period.

I'm on my second one now because of this glaring flaw. Funny... I've already owned 3 DS's that all still work (let nephews borrow them when I upgrade), and I have a broken PSP 2000, wasn't going to buy a new one for a while but the 3000's screen is HORRID.

They need to fix the orientation of the pixels on the 3000 back to the normal vertical layout... the interlacing is just awful on the PSP-3000, and they should have never released that abomination to the public... I may yet still buy a spare 2000 (slim) so when THAT one breaks I won't be stuck with one that looks like a pencil wagging in front of a projector.

They need to get the damned thing off the UMD's too, or at least allow you to save to the Memory Sticks, because the battery life is atrocious. I still use my PSP for movies, music, and Disgaea, but the DS is far and away a far superior system for games... battery life, clamshell, instant pause on lid close, no loading, etc.

Keyser, if you mod it, you are home free. You can play GBA games, SNES games, and even Nintendo 64 games on the modded PSP. Not to mention, you get to DL full games(PSP retail) and put them on your memory stick. Hell, I even play MGS on my PSP. I also have Final Fantasy 7. You should mod it man.

I have thought about it, but I'm getting ready to use it for a video monitor when I run my HDcams out on a jib crane... since the cam will be 20 feet in the air, I can't (and my DP won't be able to) see the monitors, so I am gonna run the component outs down the crane to an LB30 Sony slingbox that uses LocationFree Player... since the PSP with the latest firmware uses LF, I should be able to stream the video and audio signals out of the camera, to the "slingbox" and into multiple PSP's wirelessly, so I can see and direct background action while my DP can see the frame... I Don't want to risk modding it and then losing that functionality, but I have thought about it ;)

          modding

Modding the console won't loose those features really but i understand not wanring to mess with it. what's up with your 2000 model. i'm pretty good at fixing these things but i'm no professional. i use custom firmware from M33 or better known as Dark Alex. they crack all firmwares quickly and you can even update via wifi..

and ne programs allow you to upgrade and downgrade easily on certain models.'I

Same here Rage. Quick question. Are the updates from Dark Alex on the PSP for show or is it an actual connection to him and his latest stuff.

I have an original...unmodded. Don't use it too often as I'm not traveling as much, but I think I would use it more if I didn't have to deal with UMDs. You guys know a decent guide for modding with minimal risk of a brick? I would love to have a modded PSP with emulation for all those old school games.

As far as this picture...it's been floating around for almost a year now, so I bet there is some truth behind it. Apparently Sony has also put up a job posting for some "new gaming system". The picture is gorgeous, and if they can do the screen, sticks and UMD elimination right, it will be the ultimate portable.

I would love for the psp to have two joysticks and R2 and L2 that would be cool. The latter two buttons I can't make out in that picture but it's all good. I play my psp all the time just not online. There are way too many cheaters online for the psp thanks to the hacks and mods.

The Dark Alex CFW wifi Updates are connected to his servers and it functions exactly like the Playstation's Network Update. I recommend that you stop updating the PSP. What update are you on right now. It's quite easy if you are at 3.50 FW. Also QJ.net is a good source for info on how to hack it and of course You Tube is helpful too.

For the most part if you haven't updated it in a while don't do anything else and get back to me. I can at least point you in the right direction.

A good source of information for hacking a PSP is QJ.net it's also where I get most of my info and other homebrew programs and all kinds of stuff. Check your firmware if you haven't updated it in a while leave it alone don't update.

But if you have that's ok you may just need a Pandora Battery or a Pandora's Memory Stick. I like using the game exploits for some reason I feel it safer. Bricking isn't the end of your console. Bricking for the most part really just kills the screen connection and audio. But the enter workings of the start up still function and usually a pandora's memory stick will get you back up and running.

My PSP is already modded. The Firmware is 5.00 M33-4. If I go over to System, and then go to Update, it says Update M33. Is that Dark Alex?

Yeah M33 is Dark Alex. Also if you reboot the system, then hold the Right shoulder button you should get into a recovery menu and from there you can mess with some setting. If you don't know what you are doing don't mess with the setting but for the most part you won't really do much to it. I just suggest getting familiar with the setting and look it up on Google.

Also i recommend IRShell by Ahman if your psp is an original and has and IR port you can use it as a remote for xbox and PS2 and like 1000 other tv's and video devices. I really enjoy using this at gamestops where they have the system demos turned off. I just turn them right on and start playing. Or just go to bestbuy and mess with their TV Displays it's pretty funny.

Also if you want to play a game and play your own music at the same time you can do that. It's pretty cool.

We've lost count on the number of times we've heard from a friend of a coworker of a cousin whose girlfriend's stepfather happens to work at Sony and they're all but ready to launch a UMD-less PSP in 17 different color options bundled with a portable version of Street Fighter IV. Typically, we remain skeptical, but when it's veteran developer David "I made MDK and Earthworm Jim" Perry, we'll give him the floor to speak. Earlier this week, his Twitter account updated to say he's heard the PSP 2 is done and minus that disc drive. He later reaffirmed that comment to GameDaily, saying he can't reveal his source (naturally), but he feels certain UMD is gone. Is his source bunk? He's certainly a guy who'd know a guy, but we've heard this story far too many times to take a leap of faith now.[Via Joystiq]Read - David Perry's TwitterRead - GameDaily
