My PS3 no longer reads discs or lets me play games off my hard drive so I'm pretty much out of one until I can get $150 to fix it.

norm- Im thinking its just a HDD failure cuz if it was a hardware with the blueray laser or something it wouldn't even read disks so im just gonna get an external drive back it all up and reformat the ps3's hard drive and hope for the best. Its a 40 gig.
Brocman- Im fresh out of warranty.
shocker101- If it was a virus, i strongly doubt it was, I would have heard something about around the internet. And I've never even heard of a virus for ps3s yet.

Let us know how it works. I hope it's the HDD and a format will fix it. I know how it sucks to be without a gaming system;)
I am jealous of the PS3's ability to use an external HDD legally. That would make things so much simpler if all the systems allowed that. Maybe one day :D.Comment

It would NOT be an HDD failure. If it was you wouldn't even be able to turn it on. That is the source of the YLOD (Yellow Light of Death). The fix for that is to get a new HDD.

I dont understand whats wrong with. Today its being just fine, besides the fact that when i play W@W it freezes most of the time in the first loading screen. But if it isn't a HDD failure then why will it freeze when i try to save in penny arcade? (PSN download)

Yeah......... I smoke about 4 feet away from it. Any tips? Maybe vacuuming out the vents or something and smoke in a different room or outside?
