    The Future of Gaming?

READ EVERY WORD OF THIS ARTICLE. I am serious this could be and honestly what I could see as the future of gaming. If priced right and supported right you could see possible the end of needing a console.

This has a lot of potential for sure. But I think I'd like to keep my console for now. But this will be great in reducing junk and other garbage. It would also kill used games which for some of us broke gamers would suck. Hopefully it will bring the price of games down.

But again I don't wanna pay to play games that I own. I'm not really all that sold on it.

Don't like the idea of subscription based games. It's the sole reason I didn't get World of Warcraft and the main reason I'll never get the Xbox. I agree with one of the fist comments made under the article that it's perfect for PC gaming but not yet for consoles. It will take as long as mainstream broadband connectivity is widespread to come into it's own though. So the statement that it's the future of gaming sounds about right...

Very interesting...I'm sure this is old news to Sony or Microsoft so I wonder what they have up their sleeves regarding this. Also, wonder what the Gamestops/Best Buys must think of this....would signficantly hurt their business.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. ― Alexis de Tocqueville

I hope that it at least cuts production cost down and make games cheaper. And yeah I don't like subscriptions based gaming. I mean I don't want to continue paying for something I own. It's a big reason I got a PS3. Plus I hated forking over 50 bucks to play and just spend my time getting killed at Multiplayer games.

I don't see this as "The" thing to change gaming. It's basically Gametap but for newer games. Ask how many people that play older games like those on gametap, actually use Gametap. I know me and Kamui use emulators, as well as most poeple.

I think they are focusing more on pleasing publishers by offering better anti-piracy measures then anything else. I don't see many benefits for the actual hard core PC gamers. Most of which, like me, actually enjoy building a custom powerful PC to play games and other stuff (AutoCADing, Photoshop, web design, etc..).

While they say you can buy a game outright, does that mean it stays on their system, or do you actually get a hard copy for yourself. Most gamers are going to want a hard copy for single player, LAN gaming, maybe even piracy (it exists, right or wrong, and it will be a motivating factor for some). Especially if you consider all the bullshit with EULA's that companies try to force on you. One wrong thing against whatever EULA they setup and your paid for game could be gone.

While I see this working out for most average people that can't afford a new or powerful enough PC, and would rathe rpay a small rental fee instead of buying a game, I don't see it being as grand as they are pumping it up to be. But then again IGN is known for posting favorable reviews to companies that give enough money. That's business though.

Also they never mentioned what it would take to output a 1080p game and it sounds like to me that it would take way more bandwidth then I have. I know not a lot of people have 1080p screens, mostly people are using 720 or 480, but if a game offers 1080 then that is a big seller for me and a big let down if it does not.

Yeh, but there few if any games out there that are 1080P native.

Seems alright, I mean, if you don't like subscriptions, how else are you going to do this? Buy it online? That would be stupid. The only this can function is as a subscription service. I would like to see console games on that list(talking about only on console) like Halo 3 or MGS4. I guess we'll just have to wait and see about all the other details when the beta actually comes out.

I personally dont see it changing gaming as we know it on a console, but for computer gamers this could be big.
