    Jack Thompson Gamer Enemy #1

Personally I can't stand this Hypocrite. The man talk mad Ish about Rockstar games and Take Two....but he's a large stock holder in the company.

    Douche Numero UNO

I bet Jack Thompson's not smiling now. His video game/movie bill may have been passed overwhelmingly by the Utah House and Senate, but it seems he didn't count on the Final Boss of the Utah Government.

According to GamePolitics, Thompson himself told them that Utah Governor Jon Huntsman (R) has vetoed HB 353. Thompson also told GamePolitics that backers of the bill are still looking for a way to override the Governor's veto.

HB 353 amends the Truth in Advertising law, stating that retailers and movie theaters that advertise that they don't sell M-rated games games or R-rated movie tickets to underage buyers and then do so will be fined US$ 2,000.

Word is that some energetic lobbying by retailers helped push the Governor to veto the bill. Here's Gov. Huntsman's explanation of his decision:

After careful consideration and study, I have decided to veto HB 353...

While protecting children from inappropriate materials is a laudable goal, the language of this bill is so broad that it likely will be struck down by the courts as an unconstitutional violation of the Dormant Commerce Clause and/or the First Amendment.

The industries most affected by this new requirement indicated that rather than risk being held liable under this bill, they would likely choose to no longer issue age appropriate labels on goods and services.

Therefore, the unintended consequence of the bill would be that parents and children would have no labels to guide them in determining the age appropriateness of the goods or service, thereby increasing children’s potential exposure to something they or their parents would have otherwise determined was inappropriate under the voluntary labeling system now being recognized and embraced by a significant majority of vendors.

Yeah the ESRB rating is not governed by law it's the gaming community who set it up so that parents can become more involved in what kind of games they're children are playing.

        Jack Thompson's a douche.

Jack Thompson claims victory over Medal of Honor, tells detractors to 'go to hell'

Disbarment from practicing law apparently hasn't affected Jack Thompson's crusade against violent video games. The former lawyer has claimed victory in the wake of EA's decision to remove the Taliban from Medal of Honor. Also, he thinks those who disagree with his and his actions can "go to hell."

Early last month, PC Mag revealed that Thompson wrote a letter to U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates urging him to block Medal of Honor's release.

Aside from the issue regarding the Taliban name, Thompson's letter alleged that the game "poses a demonstrable danger to our troops by providing a training tool for those who wish to kill them." He also accused EA of allowing underage gamers to pre-order the decidedly mature title.

EA has since removed the Taliban from the game's multiplayer component. In a pair of emails to gaming news site Ripten, Thompson claimed that this was a victory resulting from his actions. He also had some pretty choice words for those who don't agree with him and his actions:

I win again, as usual. Any gamers who don’t think so and who don’t appreciate what I do to protect our culture can go to Hell.

and please add: Any gamers that don’t know how to get to Hell on an expedited basis, let me know, and I’ll send along the cheat code to get there more quickly.
