Resident Evil DLC to CODE or not to CODE

Here's something that has some people in an uproar about the latest DLC for both PS# and XBOX 360.

Personally I think this was a cheap trick pulled by Capcom.

Capcom: Resident Evil 5 DLC is not an unlock key

The sizes of Capcom's multiplayer mode DLC for Resident Evil 5 raised a few eyebrows when they were released. The files' small sizes - 1.8MB for the Xbox 360 version and a mere 351KB for the PS3 version - had quite a few gamers calling shenanigans (Rabble Rabble Rabble!).

Capcom's Chirstian Svensson, however, stood his ground and stated categorically that the downloads were not keys but new executable code. The small sizes are due to the new mode using assets already existing on the game disc. Here's Svensson's post on the Capcom Unity boards:

Keys are 100K or less. It is not a key. We have said in the past, it uses assets from the disc (like levels, models, audio, etc.) but the code is new and does not exist on the disc.

I'm no programmer, but I know there are a lot of you QJ readers who know their way around code more than I do. What do you think about the whole unlock key issue? More importantly, did you download and enjoy the new modes?
