    Warhawk Flyin And Shootin

Guys I need some help, and I have read the manuals , I will read them again. BUT
Am I doing something wrong when I am flying and trying to get a kill , I get locked on and get a hit sometimes even 2 or so , sometimes it seems that the other player has only a little life left on the bars and I still can't take them down. However I can have a full health bar and get hit 1 time and blown up , what gives? Am I just missing something or doing something wrong , or just not that good yet, is there any other tricks to a kill / a better way to get the shot ? do I need to be closer ? TRICKS or treats ?

I believe the missiles that are getting you are the homing missiles. As for the difficulty of getting kills...it sounds like you're unleashing your entire arsenal (which would explain why they have little health) before you can go in for the kill. If you're mainly using swarm missiles then don't lock all your missiles at once. Just launch one (this will cause your enemy to waste chaff) and then launch more missiles. Once they lose almost half their health, use certain weapons as finishers such as homing missiles or lightning gun. Be sure to pick up decent weapons while in the air because you definitely don't want to engage enemy pilots with just swarm missiles.

You may be getting lightnin gunned up really quick. Believe it or not I had a friend that was having the same problem. It turns out because he has an older PS3 without the rumble he didn't notice he was getting hit until his health was nearly half way gone. By that time it was 1 or 2 swarm missles and a few machine gun rounds until he was done for. I'm not sure if that maybe an issue for you.

To be honest I'm an average pilot at best (at least Broc and Dooku have made it seem that way when they gun me all the time... no hard feelings) but I wasn't able to really stay in the air too long until I learned two things.

      1) Use lighting gun (uncharged).. Just get the lighting reticle red... then move a bit closer and tap the hell out of the button while firing machine guns at the same time. Moving in a little closer will usually help get the kill or the target will zoom off and won't be in range for follow up lighting charges and they'll get some healing and some other bogey will get on your six

      2) Learn to power slide and evade missles

I guess #3.. ok I always have more to say... is don't just fire a homing missle off because you can. I find it more effective to get pretty close to the bogey and time it so I shoot the homing missle just as they start to break off when I'm on their six. Pretty much 1 homing missle and 2-3 machine gun hits will blowup a warhawk.

      Just my $0.02

Are you flying Normal or Pro flight?
There are different missile evasion techniques for each.

Get as close as possible to enemies before firing a locked missile, this gives them little to no time to evade/chaff.

One homing missile will take approx. 3/4 of a planes health, so fire close and get ready to finish them off as soon as your missile is released. Good finishers include switching to swarms, lightning gun, or just the machine gun. A couple hits from any of those or a combination of the above should down a plane fast.

Always keep an eye on your radar. You can usually see the enemies start to follow you before you see a missile lock.

Playing defense in this game usually means getting back on the offensive faster than your enemy. Learn to get behind those enemies and you won't have to defend against them.

Pick your battles. No sense going 1 on 5 in the air, regardless of your skill.

Come prepared to battle, homing missiles are a must. Know where all the pickups are and keep them out of enemy hands.

Air mines. They're not just for mining pickups. Keep one on you, and when you start getting chased, make a bee line (straight line turbo) and poop one out to kill the follower.

There's numerous more tips and tricks, you will learn as you go, but asking for help is always a good starting point.

What your talking about sounds like lag. If you are taken out with one shot from anything (besides a TOW) then its lag. If you hit someone with a missle and it does no damage its lag.

Make sure that you see the missle impact though before you chalk it up to lag.

That's assuming he had full health. It sounds more like he got damaged a bit and then got taken out with one shot...a homing missile fits the description.

I just started flying pro , my body moves a whole lot more now but it seems to be better for me. I think that I am past the sea sickness. The lag you speak of , are you talking about my connection speed and or lack of. I tend to fly around with my trigger button held on until I get a good lock maybe I am giving them to much warning time. I will read all the suggestions a few time and try some more. I want to kill all those bastards, uhhh just kidding, well maybe not. Thanks all !

Warhawk has been noticeably laggier as of late. I've taken a lot of damage in recent weeks that took way too long to register. I've found myself absorbing missles and going around gettin health even though my bar showed I didn't. Pay attention to see if damage is instant or delayed.

Yeah this has been mostly happening in foreign servers (FR, ES, etc.) so make sure you search for servers in your region in the filter option and you'll be good.

                    This

Foreign servers are just too unreliable for me. I only play them if I want to get some good Mix server action going.

Any other time I play American Servers

And the lag I was speaking of is server lag. You will see this more often in player made servers (excluding MrPips, that server is close to flawless).

Keep on with the Pro flight. I find it easier to evade missiles this way and keep my speed up to create distance between my attacker and myself.

Also don't hold your MG down until you are in some kind of decent range. If your Crosshairs are red that's when you want to lock on and shoot the MG. I highly suggest tapping the MG trigger as to not overheat your MG. I only hold it down If i'm about to send them to HELL and it's a certain kill.

In Pro flight if your in a one on one with a normal flight pilot, try to slow down with L2, this makes it easier to get a lock on with a homing missile.

Thanks guys for all the help KEEP IT COMING !!! I am listening.
Last night due to a lot of luck and your help I managed to pull of my distinguished air superiority badge !! I think I got a little lucky but what the hell. I am now lined up for my next 3-4 rank advances as soon as I get my points !! several of your hints helped. I knocked down 2 -3 followers with mines I am still working on the rest. I do prefer the pro flight mode, but dang my body moves with the plane alot.

Thanks and keep it coming !!
