Back before the best thing on TV weren't infomercials there were actually good TV shows. I mean. You have to go back to the 50's and 60's to find something clever, but here's an episode of Twilight Zone dedicated to pitchmen. This isn't the best episode from this season by any means. Sad that it's 100 times better than anything running right now. Rod Serling, Genius.

If you were on TV, where people outside the room you were playing in heard about you, then maybe.
I think we need to step this down and get your definition of "well-known" first. If your Well-Known by one or two people, like family and co-workers, then NO. If Well-Known by a majority of the US population, then Yes.

If I walk down any US street and ask 100 people "Hey do you know Devils, the chess player" and they all say "Who the fuck is that", then sorry you are no celebrity. I think if even 30-50% of the people say yeah, then you have some celebrity status.

I am baffled on how you think MJ is "borderline" celebrity. Like him or not, I think most the people in the WORLD know who he is.

It doesn't matter about what the technical discussion of a celebrity is.

Take Anne Hathaway. A lot of people know her but yet she still does a lot of small movies on the side. Despite this, she is still a celebrity.

If she is a celebrity, then Jackson is like 50x the celebrity she is. Just because some greedy bastards wanted his money and called him gay doesn't mean he loses 50k celebrity points or however you judge a celebrity by.

I'm pretty sure he is a celebrity. Billy Mays could be up for discussion, but I don't know if anyone would say that MJ was/is not a celebrity.

i actually dont like the term celebrity.. all that means is you have people running around creating a hazard because they want to take your picture and make money becuase you are on tv, plaY sports make movies or make music.. since when should that constitute being a "celebrity" Why isnt Ratix a "celebrity"? He is the creator and leader of one of the longest running, at times most domminant clans in the gaming community.
Celebrity=someone that makes alot of money off other people.. which i find to be BULLSHIT.
