      Rommel,
I shot a music video for a band and it is on Canadian Music Plus TV, like their MTV, but I don't know from there... that's all, since I don't speak French I have no idea what they said :)

Dude, I tried to pick out some words so that I could maybe try to translate it that way, but all I can hear them say is "blah blah blah moustache blah blah blah blah blah"

Well... I do speak french (they are definately french canadian .. good thing I lived in Quebec for a few years so you're in luck...normal french speakers probablly can't understand them). I'm at work right now and this computer has one crappy internal speaker but they seemed to think it was a pretty funny video. I'll give you a full review later today.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing. I can understand some French but that was beyond my scope of French. I can at least get by. But this had me baffled.

at one point I was fluent. My french teacher in high school thought it would be cool to wake me up from my comas and asked me questions to see if I knew what he was talking about. I remember how funny it was when I'd wake up give him the right answer and just go back to sleep. It would infuriate him......lol..

The Band is LA Tool and Die.

They have a cult following and tour the US when they can. They all live in NC, and Jerod Jacobs, my sound guy for movies, recorded the single for them and asked if he knew anyone who could do a video.

I told them I didn't want to do music videos, but after I heard the song and met with them, I agreed to do it. They just wanted random shots of people dancing, and since the band performs the song live with a puppet, I told them I'd want the actual puppet in the video dancing as well with people.

So when I showed up to shoot, I shot it that way, and they had CRAZY props and costumes everywhere, so I suggested people should wear those as well.

When I got the footage logged I asked them if they thought it would be ok if I edited the footage as if it was an homage to Sid and Marty Kroft 70's TV shows. They went for the idea, so I edited as such. I also added a bunch of static and crackles in the video to the beat in places, so it looked like it was lo-fi edited in a VCR or as if there was interference in the signal. They went for that, so after I got it edited as a means to intro characters I asked for a list of fake names and characters they would like to use, so they gave me those names and I threw them in there in a 70's-esque font.

From there I did a little more fine tuning, breaking up anything static and making the cuts faster so it felt more in line with a typical music video, then finished it in Blu-Ray Quality and sent it to them.

After being on youtube on my page, it people they directed to it got in touch with other people, one of whom was a video promotion agent who really liked it and started promoting it. Supposedly, MTV2 is going to pick it up as well, which is really cool, but I don't care too much... I don't want to do music videos, but it is cool that people like the weirdness and get the S&MK feel. If you want to see the full video, it's here:

I like this video, weird but good. I lost my french speaking abilities when I moved to the states many years ago. I wish I lived in a part of Canada that used both frequently, but it's all english in my neck of the woods. Wish I could help you out with the 'Quebecois Francais'. It's QUITE different than Parisian French, lots of slang and crazy inflections. Hope someone can translate.

BTW, I don't spea French but I'm gonna try and translate (this is all bullshit):

                              Guy: What the fuck?
Girl: How do your hands smell?
                              Guy: Very good.
                              *kisses hand*
                              Girl: Ok....
                              Guy: Sike!
                              *Background laughter*
Girl: LA Tool and Die is the band we're about to hear. It's a band from Charlotte, Noth Carolina it says here. Wait till you hear there crazy music! It's so messed up and trippy - rock and roll at its finest.
Guy: The song is called "Don't touch my moustache."
Girl: Yes, and stop interrumpting me douche. I already said it's from LA Tool and Die and their video is soo awesome.
                              Guy: Don't shit me.
Girl: I'll shit you whenever I want.
Guy: I'd like to see that, ho!
Girl: Let's see LA Tool and Die. Don't Touch my Moustache.
                              Guy: Retard.
                              *plays video*
*In the middle of the video, the guy appears inside a blue box*
Guy: I don't really know what they mean by moustache. I think it's a double entendre of some kind. Moustache could mean many things...
                              *video continues*
                              *video ends*
                              Guy: What a beatiful moustache!
                              Girl: *laughs*
Guy: I wonder if it matches the carpet.
Girl: Well, if I back up a little bit you can see that...
                              Guy: It's actually the carpet!
                              Girl: *dork laughter*
Guy: That's sick. You shouldn't put your carpet on your nose.

                              /End.
