I have a 95 Jeep Cherokee Sport, with a 4.0 High Out-put. (Automatic)
two wheel drive.
I have been having a problem with the tranny for several months. Somebody told me it had to do with the valvs not opening right or it could be clogged. I gave my car a little bit of gas on a dirt road one day and when I got to a stop sign with it in "drive" It started out slow.. I realized that it was starting in 4th gear and never downshifted to 1st. Ever since I have had to shift it from 1-2 then 3 then Drive. Manually! I've took it to a shop and they couldn't find out what was wrong with it. Does anyone know what the problem could be for me to keep starting in 4th and shift an Auto Tranny manually? And If so, how do I go about fixing the problem?
I realize this really isn't the place for it, but I have not had any luck with this POS.
I had a tranny flush done on it, never checked the valve body it's self yet. I was thinking it could be a bad solenoid, or the pan it self is clogged with gunk. I'm on the edge of buying a new tranny, but something tells me it can be fixed.
Any help or ideas?
