    Classic Gaming

Hey boys i know most of you wonder where I have been. Well this is it classic gaming. I lost site on why I started gameing in the first place. So I went on the search for the games form my chlidhood, (aka the S*** in the garage) and found them. My SEGA, Nintendo, and Super Nintendo, and this helped me to remember all the fun and frustration I had in the past. Form the times I spent screaming at the tv over the evil that still is Burger Time to just enjoing the perfect Legend of Zelda. THIS IS WHY I STARTED GAMEING. Not flashy graphics, not mind blowing effects just FUN!!!! As much as I love Cod4 or Socom it was a nice and much needed break, And I cant wait to get back into gaming on with you guys again. Well at least Socom cause we all know why i cant play Cod4 anylonger.

So i was wondering if you guys would like to share some of the best and worst memories you have of all the old consoles? (Even if it was back on the Odyssey lol...)

    My personal favorites

    NES
    The Legend of Zelda
    Super mario brothers (1,&3)
    Dr. Mario
    and Yoshi's Cookie

    SNES
    Super Mario World (1&2)
    Donky Kong Country (1,2,&3
    and Kirby's Avalanche

    Last but certaintly not least.....

    SEGA
    Dynamite Headdy
    Rocket Knight Adventures
    TMNT Tounament Fighters

    Not so favorites

    NES
    Dream Master
    Burger Time

    SEGA

    Lion King
Beauty and the Beast Roar of the Beast

    The real question remains.

    WHAT ARE YOURS?????

P.S. I encurage anyone to go back to the classics for a visit.

Ninja Gaiden on the NES...pure evil, but I beat the damn thing.

Silver Surfer on the NES. There is no way if you're human you could beat this damn thing. Period.

Fire Emblem Sacred Stones on the gameboy...just plain evil in every degree.

Donkey Kong World 1 & 2 for the SNES were some of my favorites, up there with the Mario games. Madden '94 I absolutely loved. The Super Star Wars games were a blast, even though I could never get past the damn Wampa... Best game I ever played back in those days was either Super Mario World or Super Mario 3.

how about PONG.... ( not my favorite ) When I was a kid we did not have the home gaming consoles
but at the bowling alley I enjoyed pole position , and then on to astroids , when I was about 25 a friend of mine bought the atari 400 and it had the classic games like defender, pac man ( hated it ) and astroids. I loved the tank game with the green lines and by the time I was about 26 I bought a console and played burger time and that was fun.

Ninja Gaiden was a hard game that leaves alot of frustrating memories for me so I was very angry at it when I was kid. Nowadays it is like an art to speedrun the game, And beat it perfectly.

Some of my best memories came from Metroid, Mega Man Castlevania, Contra, Final Fantasy, And a couple of other ingenious games. I remember being enticed by Final Fantasy 4, Entertained By Contra, Swayed By Castlevania Symphony of the night.

My first video game was Mega Man 2, I enjoyed that game alot. Metroid is a game made so perfectly that I love that game to pieces.

I guess most of my worst memories come from games that I regret buying, And unfortunately they are games I fail to remember at the momment.

                Duck Hunt anyone?

I was mostly playing Mario and Donkey Kong on the NES. Played a lot of Sonic on the SEGA (when the series was good).

Horrible: Donkey Kong, Pac Man, E.T., plus a ton of others...

                  NES
Awesome: Pro Wrestling, The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario Brothers, Blaster Master, Contra, Iron Tank, Silent Service, Metal Gear, Mega Man, Faxanadu, Punch Out
Horrible: Gyromite, Clu Clu Land, Ikari Warriors (heartbreakingly bad port), Guerrila War (also bad port), Donkey Kong (yet another one), T&C Surf & Skate,

                  Sega Master System
Awesome: Afterburner, Outrun, Space Harrier, F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Horrible: Lotta crap on there, but all the games I had were at least decent, but none were topnotch awesome without being an arcade port.

                  SNES
Awesome: Super Metroid, Link to the Past, Super Street Fighter 2, Super Empire Strikes Back, Mortal Kombat 2, NBA Jam, Star Fox, Earthworm Jim, Mario Kart
Horrible: ALL of the movie based games... seriously... this is when the movie tie in thing became a pattern of crap.

                  Genesis
Awesome: Thunder Blade, Comix Zone, Golden Axe, GENERAL CHAOS!!!
Horrible: Altered Beast, Any/all sega CD games, The 3d adventures of worldrunner.

                  PS1
Awesome: Warhawk, Wipeout, Gran Tursimo, Medal of Honor, Doom, Castlevania: SOTN, Metal Gear Solid, XCom: UFO Defense, Gunship, The Legacy of Kain, Twisted Metal 2, Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, Air Combat, Hot Shots Golf, Armored Core, COLONY WARS!!!, Bushido Blade, POINT BLANK, Harvest Moon, FINAL FANTASY TACTICS, Tecmo's Deception
The HORRIBLE: Syndicate Wars, The Masters of Teras Kasi, Twisted Metal 3, Blasto, Jumping Flash, OFF WORLD INTERCEPTOR EXTREME.

In the 2600 era, you really had to use your imagination a lot... good ideas were the ones that were different and worked with a very limited control set and kept it simple... games that tried to be complex simply ended up as confusing garbage.

In the NES/SMS era, SMS was a better machine, but NES had the hits and Nintendo just was so damn innovative... they took a lot of risks but their games were always solid and played well... SMS games were "safer", but weren't as great... but they didn't have a lot of the outright GARBAGE that was on the NES... serriously, LJN may be the worst dev ever...

SNES VS GEN was a different ballgame, since the Gen was faster but the SNES had better graphics... Both companies played it kinda safe, since they couldn't do 3d really... but the NES could emulate it and did a good job of it.

Sony really shocked everyone with the PS1... because they just blew everything else out of the water and redefined what people thought of games. They took a SHITLOAD of risks with unconventional games, and a LOT of them paid off big... their launch titles just made everything else look like shit, and the controller was such a leap forward from pads that it blew everything else off the map.

What's interesting is, when the new console makers launch, they tend to take a lot of software risks, and then cease to do so as time goes on... one reason I really like Sony is that they seem to try to develop new IP in a steady pace and take a lot of risks to hit new gameplay genres... it's one of the few things they have consistently done well over all three generations. Nintendo still innovates, but largely you know in Zelda you will have a water level, a fire level, etc etc etc and use the same tools everytime...

Just been to this gig featuring the music from all the big classic old and some new games. Very entertaining show, with lots of nostalgia and humer. I know all of you would get a buzz out of this one. Keep an eye out if they're ever on tour where you are.

                      and more to come

I actually started as an RPG gamer. I really enjoyed the long story lines and the fun part was I had this friend who would read the storyline and use different voices for all the characters and that was so effin cool.

Once I started messing around with computers I moved onto wolfenstien, Doom, Rise of the triads. Decent. and these games we used to dissect and Mod the crap out of them. making them bloodier and making different maps and secrete death rooms. Good old days.

Ok guys I just have a question for you it is not exactly a classic console but it is almost 11 years old. Did you play the SEGA Dreamcast, and what games would you recommend?

The reason I ask is, I just bought one for about $30. So I want to know what games if any you guys could tell me about.

P.S. Also if you want to keep adding other games you might love for the NES, SNES, SEGA Master System, Genesis, Atari 2600, 5200, 7600, Jaguar, or any other console. You might want to comment on.

Started to rebuild my rom collection again and found that a good place to start.

                            Fav games.. hmm. .

NES: Pro Wrestling (Piranha man FTW!!), Metal Gear (currently going through this again), Metroid, double dragon (I -III), Trojan (I think one of the first game with a player vs player battle type setup), Urban Champion, Zelda of course, Bionic Commando, Ikari Warriors (A B B A), Excite bike, Rygar, Strider, Rush n' Attack, POW, Ghosts and Goblins, Goonies, Castlevania, Crystalis, Final Fantasy series, Dragon Warrior series, Skate or Die.
There's probably more, but that's what I'v got so far.

Haven't started to look at the SNES ones yet, once I do I will start to remember which ones were good and worth downloading. I do have a few so far, like Super Metroid, Act Raiser, Desert Strike, Choplifter and a few others.
