I like to pick up a copy of national geographic when I'm traveling. Very good stuff in there. I've developed a compulsion to view the nat geo picture of the day. You can do a google search and find it handy.
Any bullets that end up in your back I promise I'll dig out for free

Some of my favourites? ok.
I really enjoyed Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns".
Having Batman deal with aging is a remarkably humanizing thing. Over the course of the story Batman's internal monologue repeatedly refers to himself as "lucky old man". In this we see Batman's confidence (Though not his drive) waning with age. This has a ripple effect as it causes both the supporting cast and the viewer to break their confidence in the dark knight. For just a moment he's no longer 75 going on 29. He is a human in a costume doing what any other person could (theoretically) do. He is vulnerable yes, but by the end of the story for a moment he is Bruce Wayne in a mask, not Batman. The heroism he shows in holding up "Batman" on his bare shoulders is a very human kind of heroism, rather than a mythic heroism.
The Maxx by Sam Keith (haven't finished reading it)
I like the Maxx because its principal cast, while each gets a chance to shine, is really just very realistically flawed people. Everyone's got very tangible emotional barriers and the comic's surreal "Outback" area allows it to delve into the truly strange. It's got a great sense of humor too.
Others I've enjoyed:
-Ghost in the Shell
-Judge Dredd
-The Sandman
-Batman: The Killing Joke
-The crow
-SkyDoll
-Watchmen
-Life in Hell (Matt Groening's comic before he did "The Simpsons")
-Revolutionary Girl Utena
-Punisher
-Ghost Rider (esp 2099)
-Dominion Tank Police
-Tank Girl
-Iron Man
-Maus I & II
-The Freak Brothers
-The Various Nintendo comics that were printed in Nintendo Power during the early-mid 90s.
So what are some of your faves?Comment

I've just recently read about the TDKR novel and it sounds like it has a good plot behind it. In addition to Batman, I also like stories with Iron Man, Transformers, and Spawn. With Spawn, I've always liked how he is a tragic hero that has such immense power at his disposal, but just wants his humanity back. It was also cool how they portrayed the battles between Heaven and Hell where Spawn is the only one fighting for Earth's sake. Plus it was great when they did a crossover where Batman and Spawn meet.sigpic
