So today I bought a new ultra thin PS3. When I got home I couldn't wait to hook it up. I wanted to transfer my files from my old PS3 to my new PS3 so I pulled out the instructions from the online manual. Went through all the steps each time getting more pumped because I was getting closer to being done. So after the software update, syncing my trophies and deactivating my old PS3, I finally got to the actual transfer. Once I started I got an error message saying "An ethernet cable is not connected, or the other PS3 system is not turned on" ...WTF!!!! After countless hours of troubleshooting (changed ethernet cable, web search, you tube) I finally got it to work... by the way I also tried calling customer service but those bastards were closed... didn't they know I had a gaming emergency.
The two things Sony forgot to mentioned is that the internet access and the media server needs to be disabled... That's it!!!
So I hope this helps everyone else on the site. Wouldn't want anyone else to waste their time like I did.
