Somthin' funky is goin' on with my PS2

Whenever I turn on my PS2, it starts making this weird buzzing noise like something is rubbing up against another part inside the PS2. Its not the disc or anything that has to do with the disc. Could it be a moter problem?
The noise also can either be loud or quiet, not so loud that it drowns out the TV but just loud enough to get you really annoyed!

Any assistance with this problem would be much appreciated.

i had the same problem. Very easy fix. You need a small plastic piece that allows the cd drawer to slide open. Honestly took me 20 min max to fix. Check out these guys on ebay to purchase the part.

If you have the old bigger block style ps2, you might wanna start thinking about saving up $50 or so and trade in the old one for a new one. EBgames pays I think $75 for the old ones, and the new slimmer one is only $125.

I've had this old PS2 model for years since its second release. This baby has lasted me for so long.At one point it was messing up during the battlefront 1 days with the demonic yavin temple sounds.I found the source of the problem and it was indeed my lens which was so dusty after years of not being cleaned .
I usually get that buzzing sound from blue disc games unfortunately.age wears most things out im afraid :( .
So yea try cleaning your lens with a Q-Tip.With some warm water and wipe it gently removing any dust or dirt that may be there.Be sure to open it.

the buzzing usually doesn't have much to do with the laser. Usually it has more to do with that piece I listed above not sitting in the grooves correctly or not enough lubrication for the laser slide arms to move.

My cousin bought "Ratchet & Clank" tried to play it and his PS2 blew up 8O . But when I say "blew up" I mean it was smoking and melting. Just so you know it can go at any time.
