Some questions from a NOOOOB

Hey everyone. I have a few questions now that I have my game server up and running successfully for the most part.

1) The server manager just lets me communicate with the actual server right? Or is my computer actually the server now with this software?

2) How do I know if my Headset is working properly. I can usually hear people but can never tell if someone can hear me. Sometimes I get a reply back sometimes I dont. When I check the player list it shows me sending and recieving but like I said im just not sure.

3) Why does my room ping show up as NA? Most ive had in my room was two people including myself thus far and I didnt notice any lag or have any problems.

I may have some more questions depending on the answers given to me from Q #1. I thank you all in advance to any replies.

1. Your computer is actually the server. Unless you have it set up somewhere and are paying them to have it on their cpu like we do so we can have it up all the time.

2. With the server, or it might be the game, sometimes the headsets work and sometimes they don't. Just some sort of glitch somewhere.

3. Ping showing NA I think would be another server program/game issue where it just doesn't show sometimes.

The N/A thing means that you are hosting it from a certain IP adress that has really high ping. Ratix will tell you in details what it really means. With the mic issue just ask if they can hear if they respond in any way then they should be able to hear you.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Im happy to hear my comp is the actual server. This helps me and alot of my friends in the area who would like to play online. Give us the ability to have a lagless game online. By the way I have been learning alot the last two years about networking and might be able to help some of you. Feel free to ask. I would also like to offer my server as a place to play for those who find too much lag in other rooms. If your on the East coast or better yet in the New York State area Stop by. I dont know when the server will be online. Thus far its been on only when I play but my newtwork is always on and theres no reason I cant have the server on too. Let me know if its needed and I would be happy to accomodate. Oh Yeah!!!! I call my room WAR. Simple and effective. I primarilly play conquest. Any stage, Any time.

Just to touch up on your questions.
For both 2 and 3, you need to correct your port settings. You have to forward the correct ports on your router (if any) and/or open them in your firewall(again, if any).

The NA pings means the server is being blocked from pinging the master server list at gamespy. If this port is blocked, it is very likely you might run into problems with your headset as well.

I believe somewhere in the tech forums is a listing of the proper ports. Just try to use the search and find them.

Thanks Ratrix, Yeah I thought I had all the correct ports opened and such but maybe not Ill check again. The headset seems to work sometimes. I get the feeling the farther people are away from me the less I can talk to. Weird but whatever. Im sure with the next version of Battlefront all will be fixed LMAO!!

Looks like I was missing a port. Alls fine with Ping. Thanks again ratrix. Now Does anyone know what to do about tracking stats??? What are my options?
