Are they really necessary? I've built a couple pc's and didnt have any problems. I do know that static can fry your pc especially if you are near carpet. Another question is how much harder is it to fry your pc with these?

Ive never used these either. I do think if your going to be doing this kind of work often it might be a good idea. I always open up my comps on my cleared workbench and before I do anything I ground myself to the PC's frame.Momma always told me never put off tomorrow Stuff you can blow up today!!!! -
No idea how necessary they are. But if you have anti-static wristbands, i think you should have anti-static headbands as well and be an anti-static Bjorn Borg. That reference just flew over the heads of most of the people here.You're the best! Around! Nothings gonna ever keep you down!

The wrist bands aren't really necessary. All you need to do is touch the case of the PC (if metal) or cover to the power supply. I never use a anti-static band and never had problems."POWER!!! UNLIMITED POOWWWEEEER!!!!!!
