Adjusting Ping

I'm not very efficient on the tech front just with a rifle but is there a way to adjust your ping? Or is it just from your crappy internet provider? Just wondering because I know it becomes an issue for some people.

I kbow that sometimes people can have high ping due to a router and usually u can just forward ports and it will help a lil bit but not usually fully get rid of the problem, the only problem is people's ps2 don't have an ip address so there is nowhere to forward the port to, but there is a way to give ur ps2 an ip address, but that gets more complicated and depends on the router u use, but ya if u do that then u can forward ports and slightly fix the ping

Ping is a measure of the speed and quality of your connection. You can ping different sites to see how your connection is through the dos prompt on your PC.

So for video games, it is telling you how well your connection is sending information. A high ping means it is not working well. The best you can do is get a faster connection, turn off your pc while you are playing, directly connect into your modem.

Ping, or Latency, is the measure of time in Milliseconds it takes a packet of data to be sent from your computer, to a destination computer, and back to your computer. The longer it takes, the higher the ping.

Really the only way to decrease your ping or latency, is to move closer to the server. If the server is in NY and you live in CA, you will have a higher ping then someone else that lives in NY. Of course, your ISP, router, connection quality, etc... all play a role as well in determining your ping.

Your PS2 certainly does have an I.P. Address. Just like a computer. Ive found that when playing behind a router the best way to control Ping is to set up a Static I.P. for the PS2. This wont eliminate lag but will greatly decrease the time your router needs to send the PS2 the appropriate information.
