Usually my wireless internet is fast but ever since I installed McAfee 07 it slowed down. I uninstalled it and it is still pretty slow. Any suggestions?

Well McAfee has a rep as being a resource hog and wireless is, well, crap if you don't have a good signal. As for McAfee itself slowing down the connection, I have McAfee and don't notice any issues. Might be just a coincidence. A good test would be to direct connect and also connect to the router via a cable (if you can) and see if you notice any difference between any of the setups. The idea behind most troubleshooting is to create different situations that have one or two things in common letting you isolate the issue to a certain area thus making it easier to solve.
Another thing to check out, make sure that McAfee didn't automatically configure any network settings that might still be in place after the removal of the program. -
Make sure you turn off the McAfee firewall and try it out as well. Also, pull up their faqs on uninstalling. I haven't been able to get rid of one of the worm firewalls I have from my old symantic protection software. symantec was much worse than the free mcafee stuff I use from aol now (you can download it without being an aol customer).Last edited by Zabka; 08-01-2007, 12:48 AM.You're the best! McAfee completely ruined my interent a couple of months ago.
The computer thought everything was working properly.
The FiOS people even brought a Wizard and it said nothing was wrong.
It was connected but it wouldn't go through.
It would just say "waiting for reply."
The only way we could get the internet to work was to
have our computer completely unprotected.
We had to reset Windows back to the day that we bought it.
I think it has something to do with the constant updates that it sends you.sigpicComment
