    Networking

I'm decent with hardware but semi retarded when it comes to networking. So here goes...How do i network my pc and 360 without having to connect both of them via broadband cabling. I followed the directions given on xbox.com/pcsetup for using windows media player 11. But the only way i can get them to see each other is to connect them with the cable i'm usin to connect my pc to my router. And even then it's not seeing my DVD files.

I assume they are both connected to the same router. on xbox.com it shows you how to set it up. the link you listed should work. After you start the setup on your PC, you then have to go to your 360 dashboard into media and then you have a code you need to type in from your PC setup (IIRC). I did it when I first set it up and have had no problems since then.

I haven't been able to stream music while playing games though...so I just copied a bunch of MP3 files onto a flash drive and pop it into a USB slot and my music overtakes teh music from teh game (without cutting out sound effects and dialogue). For a game like Gears it can be fun to play violence inducing music while trying to rip people in half with a shotgun.

Yeah i found that music thing quite useful playing halo. I hooked my ipod up to it before getting into the game. Two questions Zab. What's IIRC? Can this be done without hooking my pc and the 360 together?

Sorry for the confusion. IIRC=If I Recall Correctly. What I mean is that when I first did this setup a year ago, I had to follow the steps on the page you linked and it involved updating my windows media player and then getting some code from my PC that I had to plug into the media section of my 360 when it was connected and then I was good to go for streaming. I can stream music and pictures...I haven't tried videos yet.

Even though I'm a PS "fanboy" I have to admit I like that music feature of replacing the game soundtrack while keeping sound effects. That's the only compliment I will probably dish out to the 360 so cherrish it.:D

I had the music working originally on my system, but then installed a hacked addon for XP MCE to use the media center feature as I could use transcode 360 to play non WMA video files. I recently tried the TVersity program as well but seems to just cause issues. Now I can't get anything to connect. I know there are some ports listed that need to be opened on any firewall you might be running on your PC. The router should be able to forward all internal network traffic, so thats not needed to be configured. Unless you have some blocks setup on the network yourself.
