Everytime I open Internet Expoler or the internet period I get an advertsiment saying my computer is infected (with a trojan) and I need to install its anti virus system which is very expenisve.

Ive hit this computer with spybot norton anti. and its still on there if you guys have any advise to get rid of it I would Be Happy to hear how because this thing is eating my computer from the inside out.

Download, Install then update FULLY the AVG Free Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. You might have to check for updates more then once on initial use. Keep updating till it says "no updates available". That should solve the problem.

Spike if you can download Spybot Search and Destroy and Ad-aware. Both are free and are are good at cleaning up some of the files on your computer that are responsible for pop-up ads.

I used to use Spybot, but don't anymore, It sucks and you'll end up constantly removing the same things over and over again.

Ad-Aware... Sucks as well. All you need is the two programs I mentioned above. Anything more would be overkill.

a squared free digs pretty deep too.But yeah RaTix is right about AVG. I actually went ahead and bought their security suite. My computer has been fine.

If your using AVG uninstall Norton. Having multiple AV programs can cause problems. And Norton is just a resource hog anyway.

It never cleans your system as well as AVG will. Norton always seems to miss things, Case in point, Spike's current issue that started this thread. Since it's more of a mainstream and corporate anti-v, coders and virus writers create new viruses and worms that will target Norton and try to disable it or get around it more so then other programs. Besides that, It's active runtime protection suite is constantly scanning your PC using up precious RAM and CPU resources. If your computer is running sluggish and slow, try uninstalling it and you'll notice a HUGE difference. Of course, make sure you have something else installed or ready to install.

I would Un-Install norton but with all the systems I had before Norton is the only one that picked up a nasty virus I had before so Im just gonna keep them all

Damn AVG is making my comp slow on start up when it goes for an auto update.

Nevermind I found out how to turn it off..

I strongly recommend NOT running two separate anti virus programs. Your gonna stress your system and have poor performance, or worse case, cause a conflict that will cause the system to crash completely.

Well when one is on I shut off the other will this keep that risk at a minimal?

Not really. Most of the major functions of Norton's are installed and run as Services, which are processes that run in the background in Windows. So turning it off doesn't necessarily stop all the processes of that program, meaning you will still have both running. That aspect of Norton's is another reason why I don't like it, and why it causes a strain on the system.

For Corporate use, Norton's is good, but home use you only need one anti-v and it should be AVG.
