    Video Gallery - FireFox issues

    Ok this is starting to piss me off so let's see if anyone else has any ideas. Some reason Firefox 3 doesn't like to play AVI files.

    [ame="http://www.darksidealliance.com/gallery/showimage.php?i=382&c=21"]Venturebros Maybe - DSA Photo / Video Gallery@@AMEPARAM@@http://www.darksidealliance.com/gallery/files/1/9/7/5/maybe.avi@@AMEPARAM@@http://www.darksidealliance.com/gallery/files/1/9/7/5/maybe.avi[/ame]

    Yet in IE it opens fine. In Firefox 2 it was working, but after installing 3 it all went to hell. I do not know if it's the coding, codec or plugin that FireFox is missing.

    Here is the inline video embed mod template for the Gallery.
    HTML Code:
    <!-- OBJECT is needed for Microsoft Internet Explorer and EMBED is needed for Netscape/Mozilla deviations. -->
    <object classid="clsid:6BF52A52-394A-11d3-B153-00C04F79FAA6" id="Player"
    <if condition="$media_width AND $media_height">
      width="$media_width" height="$media_height"
    </if>
    codebase="http://activex.microsoft.com/activex/controls/mplayer/en/nsmp2inf.cab#Version=6,0,0,0"
    standby="Please wait while loading Microsoft Windows Media Player components..." type="application/x-oleobject">
    <param name="URL" value="$image_file_url">
    <param name="rate" value="1">

      Well even after the complete reinstall, your shitty plug in keeps crashing FF. FF should be able to natively read AVI files without a plugin at all. Do a fresh install somewhere and see if you have any issues. I'm thinking of switching the ms web player to the VLC web player and seeing if that helps it. Or maybe downgrading back to FF2.

          Ok, well I reinstalled VLC and installed the Mozilla plugin for that. I removed a lot of the params from the embed code to as follows.

          HTML Code:
          <embed type="application/x-oleobject" name="Player" src="$image_file_url"
          <if condition="$media_width AND $media_height">
           width="$media_width" height="$media_height">
          </if>
          </embed>
          This gets the video to actually play in FF, but when switching to another video, FF crashes. With the same changes and no VLC plugin, it's the same "Unknown Plugin" error. So there is obviously a problem with FF's default plugins and handling of AVI files.

          Broc I don't know if that was sarcasm or not. Norm what player are you using?

            Urgh... Ok I changed the web player back to the windows 95 media player version.

            HTML Code:
            <embed type="application/x-mplayer2" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wurecommended/s_wufeatured/mediaplayer/default.asp" src="$image_file_url" rate=1 balance=0 currentPosition=1 playCount=1 autoStart=1 loop=-1 currentMarker=0 invokeURLs=-1 volume=100 mute=0 uiMode=full stretchToFit=0 windowlessVideo=0 enabled=-1 enableContextMenu=0 fullScreen=0 SAMIStyle SAMILang SAMIFilename captioningID enableErrorDialogs=0 _cx=7938 _cy=6482
            <if condition="$media_width AND $media_height">
             width="$media_width" height="$media_height">
            </if>
            </embed>
            This plays the AVIs, but WMVs don't work now. This is incredibly infuriating.

              I'm using windows media player. The problem is with the activix (sp?) control and the player. FF doesn't use it like IE does.

              I also use fireftp, adblock plus and filterset g. Those are the only plugins I have installed. I remember after going from FF1 to FF2 there were a ton of add-on issues and it took a few weeks to get them sorted. They did a better job this time getting a good number of the major add-ons to work with FF3.

                Well it can't be an addon issue if it does it on a clean install with no addons at all.

                IE uses OBJECT tags as in the first post. FF can only read EMBED. ... hmm. I wonder if moving the EMBED out of the OBJECT tags will help.

                  I've finally got the videos to play right in Firefox. Some reason the new Windows Media player plugin was not installing for me so I had to manually add the plugin files to get the embeded videos to work properly.

                  If you have a problem viewing any of the DSA Gallery's video files in FireFox or problems installing the Windows Media Player Plugin, download the plugins.rar file attached and extract to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins". Restart FF and the videos should display properly.

                  *WMV files will not resize in FF.
