Thinking about getting a new 360...

So the refurbished 360 that Microsoft sent back to me is dying,
and my 20 GB hard-drive has become insufficient for the amount of things that I want to download and save.

The only problem is, Microsoft couldn't include a hard-drive transfer kit with the 360 Elite.
And I really don't feel like requesting one and waiting for them to send it to me unless that's my only option.

I could buy the new 360 Pro with the 60 GB and then buy the 120 GB hard-drive to get the transfer kit, but then I'll miss out on the awesomeness of a black 360.

So what I want to ask is, is there any other way to transfer my stuff from my 20 GB to whatever new system that I get, without the hassle of requesting a transfer kit from Microsoft and waiting for it?
Would the 512 MB memory card be of any use in this situation?
Would I be able to save my gamertag on the memory card and then put it on the new hard-drive?
512 MB is probably not enough to save some of the stuff that I have downloaded though.
But if I have my gamertag on the new hard-drive, I can just re-download everything, right?

Or can I attach my 20 GB hard-drive to the 360 Elite while I wait for Microsoft to send me a transfer kit if that is the only option?

I'm so confused. Quick responses would be appreciated, the bank closes in an hour.

I hate waiting for Microsucks for anything, I would get that 120 GB because in the long run it'll serve you well. 512 Memcard would seem good too since any arcade games you've brought should be able to be downloaded again since you have purchased license on it.

I would get the elite. As far as the transfer kit, you can either get it from M$, see if anyone here has one they will mail to you, or ask your local gaming store if they have one that you can use.

When I turned my 360 into Circuit City for a new one I got an Elite. CC let me keep my old HD, but the Elites don't come with a transfer kit. So I couldn't transfer any of my info over. That was fine and the biggest thing I lost was my saves to one game I haven't finished yet. The one thing that I lost that pissed me off was the DLC for SWBF2. But I called M$ and they gave me credit for it.

With the transfer kit you can only use it once. That's one of the major downsides to the 360 is its HD being a propiatery piece. It sort of discourages you from using a bunch of different hard drives or cheaper none M$ drive and forces you to use their drive

The gamer profile can be downloaded (recovered) from Live, but of course does not include game saves, only profile.

You could use the memory card to transfer over the files 1 by 1. As long as they are not larger then 512mb, which most demos and some saves are. Or get the 2GB mem card to make it quicker. You may as well get the transfer kit if your gonna buy anything though.

You can go to Settings -> Storage (I think) to view saves, demos, etc.. that are on the HDD. Then try to transfer to the mem card and then new system.

          Thanks for your input guys.

I decided to buy the Elite and I'm either going to request a transfer kit from M$, see if anyone in the clan has one they can let me borrow,
or keep calling GameStop because I asked them and they said that they sell them but they just sold the last one yesterday.

So I'm just going to use my 20 GB on the Elite until I can get a transfer kit because $50 for a memory card is a little bit too much.

I still have a good amount of cash left so I'll probably be picking up Left 4 Dead sometime soon.

Also, try posting a request in the "games" section of your local craigslist... something like:

$5 - Looking for 360 HDD transfer kit.

And go into detail on the actual post. You probably have several people close to you that have them that would probably either sell it to you cheap or maybe let you borrow it if you let them hold a $20 for collateral. Since Craigslist is local, and you meet the people before you buy, you may get a much better deal... eBay sucks.
