Here's a little info on yesterday on the most recent update. Enjoy.



The PlayStation 3 2.70 Firmware Update is definitely coming! Not today, though, at least not now. Maybe in a couple of hours it'll land - you know how Sony is about dropping their FWs: announced, but always surprising. Anyhow, Eric Lempel took to the PS Blog to reveal to us a few nifty details about this latest firmware edition for the power console.

First up: the new Text Chat feature. Sounds cool, eh? And it is! This will allow you to communicate online with your PSN pals - up to 15 of them at a time, take note - via the Wireless Keypa, on-screen keyboard, or other compatible keyboard peripherals.

And then there's more:

Friends list on the XMB (XrossMediaBar)
Sort your friends via their online status
Attach larger files to the messages you send to your friends (file size will increase from 1MB to 3MB)
Video delivery service on PlayStation Store
Video files you’ve purchased from the PlayStation Store can be backed up to an external storage device and then restored to PS3’s internal hard drive for playback – so you can clear up space on your hard drive and then restore the video anytime in the future
Videos you’ve purchased for PSP (PlayStation Portable) system can now be transferred to PS3 for playback

We told you it's gonna be up real soon. As a matter of fact, FW 2.70 is now live! We're downloading it as I type, and we'll have the changelog for you in a jiffy. We've got the changelog for you here:

You can now perform text chat with people who are on our friends list. You can chat with them while you are playing a game. To use this feature, go to [Friends] > [Start New Chat], and then select [Text Chat].
Using the Internet, you can now easily search for the latest information about the games that you own. To use this feature, select the icon for the game, and then select [Internet Search] from the options menu.
You can now copy and paste text.
You can copy text from the Internet Browser and paste it into the text entry field of the on-screen keyboard to make it easier to enter text.
You can now set an option to reduce the difference in volume level between tracks to help avoid sudden, loud output.
You can set this option in [Settings], [Music Settings]> [Dynamic Normalizer].

Make this voice chat in/out of game with up to 16 people and I will do a cartwheel. In-game communication of any kind is appreciated though, and the copy/paste will be quite handy....once I get a keyboard

Looks like I'm going to have to buy a wireless keyboard solely for my PS3 now. I'm lookin at the new apple wireless bluetooth keyboards (sans number pad). Anybody have a better recommendation for a wireless (usb/bluetooth), small sized keyboard?

I though it did say in the update changelog that it would have in-game voice chat. Now I'm all sad

The text chat can only use a few characters so your mesg.s have to be short. Hopefully people won't be using this to call poeple out on socom.

The copy and paste is awesome for me, since my PC is shot. I won't have to ask anyone to put in my role for me for warhawk matches. :D If I could participate in file sharing I wouldn't even need a PC.

There is also a security feature, but it blocks all sorts of shit so I took it off real quick.

I'm not sure how the copy and paste works without a mouse, but with the mouse it's just like your PC. Hold the left mouse button and drag it over what you want to copy. When you release, a bubble pops up and gives you the option to copy, search, or cancel.

DAx I was dissapointed wit the ingame chat. You can do it but you have to have a camera....lame.

Broc we tried to get you to come on the chat but Don't know why you didnt get my invites.

The chat feature will be great so I can tell KG to check his mic......and take it off mute

This sounds good. My wireless keyboard has a mouse pad so copying and pasting is going to be a nice feature. I like the improved chat features too. Now I don't have to spam Broc with PSN messages lol.

Yeah I use a USB keyboard I picked up. Cheap has nice features for pc. I got it cause eventually I want to install Yellow Dog Linux on the PS3 but first I need to add a 1 terabite HDD.

finally checked out the text chat last night. It's pretty cool. I like how you don't have to look at it constantly to know that you just got a message on there. And all you have to do to look at it again is to press the PS button.

The text chat sounds cool but to me this FW didn't really deliver what i hoped it would. Maybe sony will one day let us log in as more than one user account. Maybe
